New Report Claims to Reveal Top 20 Most-Played Games on PC in 2025

A new report has given a glimpse into what PC gamers are spending the majority of their time on, via a top twenty game list. Some major PC hitters players would likely expect to find on the list, like Roblox, Minecraft, and League of Legends are there, as well as some additional classics, newcomers, and surprises.

Gamers on PC have no shortage of options for what they can play these days. On average, Steam gains over 10,000 new games per year, and both it and the Epic Games Store provide a regular stream of free games and greatly discounted ones that are inviting to pick up. Despite the regular influx of new PC games, though, gamers on the platform have a reputation for sticking with older titles for a long time, and that is noticeable in this new list.

These Were the Most-Played Games on Xbox and PlayStation in 2025

New data reveals the most-played games of 2025, and the results might be surprising, considering the many big titles that were released that year.

In a report from NewZoo (via Insider Gaming), a list of the top 20 games on PC by playtime has been revealed. Roblox remains king, taking the top spot, while Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Minecraft, and Fortnite make up the remainder of the top 5. A number of popular shooters made the list, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Overwatch 2, and Marvel Rivals. World of Warcraft notably secured two slots on the list, with the base game securing 8th place with 2.4% of playtime, while expansion Wrath of the Lich King slotted into the 15th spot with 1% of playtime all on its own. Popular gacha games like Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact also made the list in 18th and 19th position, respectively, likely showing that console and mobile devices remain the most popular method of playing those games.

  3. League of Legends – 6.9%
  4. Minecraft – 6.3%
  5. Fortnite – 4.3%
  6. Dota 2 – 3.6%
  7. Valorant – 3.2%
  8. World of Warcraft – 2.4%
  9. The Sims 4 – 2.3%
  10. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – 1.8%
  11. Escape from Tarkov – 1.7%
  12. Overwatch 2 – 1.5%
  13. Marvel Rivals – 1.2%
  14. PUBG: Battlegrounds – 1.1%
  15. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – 1.0%
  16. Grand Theft Auto 5 – 1.0%
  17. Diablo 4 – 1.0%
  18. Wuthering Waves – 0.9%
  19. Genshin Impact – 0.9%
  20. Apex Legends – 0.9%

The data reveals some interesting trends about what kinds of games PC gamers are spending their time on. For example, the only game that made the list that’s solely single-player was The Sims 4, which held strong in the 9th position with 2.3% of the playtime. Grand Theft Auto 5 was also present on the list at #15, but Grand Theft Auto Online was likely folded into this number, as it remains a popular game mode. Overall, shooters and MOBAs seemed to be the most common in the top 20.

Of the top 10 games on the list, only one came out within the last year, namely Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Roblox will turn 20 this year, League of Legends is 17, and Minecraft is entering its 16th year. The eldest game on the list is World of Warcraft, which is now 22 years old. This seems to reinforce the notion that PC gamers spend a lot of time playing old games. Blizzard’s popularity as a developer is clearly evident as well, given that World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Diablo 4 all made the list.

As noted, free-to-play games are also a big draw for PC gamers, and that’s also clear from this list. Of the top 5 alone, four of the games are free-to-play, with Minecraft being the sole exception. Across all the games on the list, the only entries that aren’t free to play or free to start are Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Escape from Tarkov, Grand Theft Auto 5, Diablo 4, and the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Although plenty of PC gamers are spending money on F2P titles, having zero cost up front and no subscription fees is likely a huge plus for a lot of players.

Given the immense popularity of older games and free games on the list, it will be interesting to see if any 2026 games can crack the top 20 by the end of this year.
