New Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Footage Shows Off New Location

As 2025 draws to a close and survival horror fans get closer to finally experiencing the next major Resident Evil title, a brand-new look at Resident Evil Requiem gameplay has teased a previously unknown location that immediately conjures up memories of traipsing through the old Spencer Manion. Resident Evil Requiem has been touted as a “return to form,” and the latest sneak peek at combat gameplay has already sparked celebratory reactions among longtime fans and soon-to-be first-time players.

It has already been confirmed that the setting of Resident Evil Requiem will once again transport players to the notorious Raccoon City after its bombing. While shots of the ruined RPD building have been shown time and time again, the story is said to follow new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak‘s Alyssa Ashcroft, as she investigates a string of mysterious deaths at the Wrenwood Hotel – the same place where Alyssa was murdered. However, it would serve to reason that Grace’s investigation may lead her beyond the hotel and further into the heart of Raccoon City, with the latest glimpse at a new location sparking speculation among fans of the franchise.

Switch 2 Gets Exclusive Cover Art for Resident Evil Requiem

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Resident Evil Requiem showcases exclusive cover art that is different from other console releases.

New Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Shows New Location Similar to the Spencer Mansion

A short clip of combat between Grace and a zombie in Resident Evil Requiem was shown during a special program aired on Japanese TV. The short teaser sees Grace firing a handgun at a zombie descending a set of stairs before the shambling enemy lunges at her. Players immediately likened the scene to moments in the original Resident Evil game, namely when battling the undead in the ornate Spencer Mansion, though with a modern over-the-shoulder camera angle. The carved wooden railing running up the stairs and the wall-mounted lighting fixtures certainly share a similar architecture and design as the Spencer Mansion, as well as areas of the Raccoon City Police Department. While nothing outright confirms the gameplay’s location, a wall of what appears to be room keys possibly indicates the scene does in fact take place in a staff area of the Wrenwood Hotel.

One key piece of gameplay information that has yet to be fully confirmed is whether Leon S. Kennedy will be in Resident Evil Requiem. Game producer Masato Kumazawa urged players to be more careful of believing internet rumors, though he did not outright say that Leon would not be making an appearance. Some of the rumors in question claimed that game files showed evidence of Leon being a playable character alongside Grace Ashcroft, though there has yet to be any official statement made fully confirming or denying Kennedy’s potential appearance in Requiem.

Resident Evil Requiem Tugging on Heartstrings Could Be a Double-Edged Sword

With The Game Awards 2025 set to kick off on December 11, many are expecting Resident Evil Requiem to make an appearance in some capacity. Whether Capcom is planning to make a huge splash at The Game Awards with a confirmation on Leon’s return remains to be seen, but it would be an ideal time for the company to drop a major reveal ahead of the game’s launch on February 27, 2026. Another possible TGA announcement by Capcom would be a reveal of the next Resident Evil remake. Previous rumors teased a full RE1 remake, though those have since been debunked, and the latest information from alleged insiders now points to a remake of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil – Code: Veronica.

The modern success of the Resident Evil franchise following the lull after RE6 has been warmly welcomed by horror fans. Both the recent remakes and newer releases have been critically and commercially praised, leaving many to have high expectations for Resident Evil Requiem. Whether the game ultimately lives up to those expectations remains to be seen, but a big TGA announcement may be just what Resident Evil Requiem needs to keep audience hype maxed out ahead of its February release on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S.
