A new Silent Hill release called Silent Hill: Townfall – The Dock House is out right now. Players who are looking forward to the next entry in the franchise, Silent Hill: Townfall, can check it out to shed further light on the story of the game before its launch.
Silent Hill: Townfall is the newest entry in the long-running survival horror franchise, and this time, it’s taking players to Scotland. Silent Hill f shook up the formula by setting a game in Japan in the 1960s, and this new game will similarly take players further into the past than the very first Silent Hill game, as it’s set in the 1990s. But set even earlier than the game is this new project that’s just released.
Silent Hill Gets New Release Ahead of Townfall
While Silent Hill: Townfall will release on September 24, gamers can already check out a comic prequel story to the game called The Dock House. The new comic was written by the lead writer and game director of Silent Hill: Townfall, Jon McKellan, with David Roach providing the artwork. The new comic tells a story that transpires prior to the events of the game, focusing on a St. Amelia harbormaster named Douglas. The comic’s synopsis says that Douglas discovers an “impossible” stairwell that dives deep beneath the harbor, and that he’s forced to confront a “terrifying reality” that awaits there. The digital version is out now, with a physical edition to follow on September 30.

Silent Hill comics are nothing new in the franchise, with the very first graphic novel based on the series reportedly being finished way back in 1999. Unfortunately, that particular graphic novel has never been officially published. A number of comics followed that did reach players, however, with most featuring original stories set in Silent Hill. One of the last ones released was Anne’s Story, which was based upon Silent Hill: Downpour, one of the final entries in the series before it went completely stagnant during the 2010s. However, the series has returned to the medium in recent years, with Silent Hill f getting a manga with a new ending.
Long-time fans of the series know this isn’t the first time that a Silent Hill entry has featured a character named Douglas, though the harbormaster doesn’t appear to be the same character. Douglas Cartland was a character in Silent Hill 3, who was hired to track down the protagonist, Heather Mason. It’s not the first instance of a recurring first name, with Lisa Garland being a character in the original Silent Hill, and Lisa also being the name of the ghost who appears in Kojima’s P.T. demo.
Konami has been experimenting with the Silent Hill franchise a bit in recent times, with the most notable instance being Silent Hill: Ascension. The unusual interactive series invited fans to get involved, as they were the ones ultimately determining how the story would end, through methods like voting and quick-time events. With Konami turning the Silent Hill series into an annual release franchise, it’s entirely possible that more comic books and alternate methods of telling stories like Ascension will follow. However, that may partially depend upon the reception of Silent Hill: Townfall. The last original story, Silent Hill f, was a major success with strong positive reviews, so fans are eager to see if Townfall can live up to its predecessor.
