A new Soulslike game for August 2026 has released to Generally Favorable reviews, no doubt inviting many fans of the genre to check it out on its platform. After all, Soulslike games are one of the most popular genres in gaming today.
FromSoftware pioneered the genre with games like Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne, perhaps even perfecting it with Elden Ring, and many developers followed suit with the key aspects of the genre: the difficulty, the environmental storytelling, the sense of accomplishment, etc. Of course, many devs put their own spin on it, and thus the Soulslike genre is held in high regard by many fans (even if not all of them are good).
Lies of P: Complete Edition Launches to Strong Reviews on Nintendo Switch 2
Of course, there’s no arguing with the reviews for the new Nintendo Switch 2 release of Lies of P: Complete Edition. Launched to an 86 critic rating on Metacritic on August 6 (with 26 critic reviews), Lies of P compiles the core game and Overture DLC into one release for the new platform. Many fans are excited for the sequel, which Neowiz and Nough Studio (previously Round8) are working on, as many consider it to be the best Soulslike game not from FromSoftware.

For the uninitiated, Lies of P puts a dark spin on the classic Pinocchio story, following the puppet protagonist through the ruined city of Krat as he searches for his creator and uncovers the truth behind the mysterious Puppet Frenzy. Lies of P nails every aspect of the Soulslike genre, while exploring a fun and unique gothic Belle Époque setting. Soulslike games on Nintendo consoles are hit or miss, really any major third-party AAA game can be, so to see this Metascore is a positive thing. In other words, it’s good to see it translate so well to the Nintendo Switch 2 platform.
What’s more, general players and users seem to agree with critics. Sometimes there’s a stark divide among critics, or among critics/fans, but the User Score for Lies of P: Complete Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 is 8.3, just 3 points lower than its 86, and has only three fewer reviews. As such, there’s plenty of reason to return to Krat right now for any Nintendo Switch 2 owner.

In truth, the Nintendo Switch 2 platform is on fire. Nintendo recently showed off 33 upcoming games for the console, including a handful of first-party Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave hits in September, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort in October, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in December. Meanwhile, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Winds and Waves, and Xenoblade Genesis are all currently TBA, with the former expected in 2026 and the latter two expected in 2027. They’ll find good company in Lies of P: Complete Edition.
