New Square Enix Game Looks Absolutely Incredible and It Now Has a Release Date

Square Enix‘s latest original title, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, has just taken a big step toward becoming one of 2026’s most anticipated RPGs. During the recent Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase on February 5, 2026, Square Enix confirmed an official release date for the stunning action-RPG that has been drawing comparisons to genre classics and the developer’s past HD-2D games like Octopath Traveler.

Originally announced last summer, The Adventures of Elliot has likely been on the radar of many RPG and Square Enix fans since its reveal at the July 31, 2025 Partner Showcase. While that initial presentation shared the first trailer and a demo release, however, it excluded a release date from the conversation. That changed today, with Square Enix announcing June 18, 2026 as the worldwide launch date for The Adventures of Elliot across all planned platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Is a Gorgeous HD-2D Action RPG by Square Enix

What makes The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales stand out isn’t just the creators behind it, but what it promises in terms of story, HD-2D visuals, and gameplay. Developed by Square Enix in collaboration with Claytechworks (the studio behind Bravely Default 2), The Adventures of Elliot takes the nostalgic charm of pixel art and blends in some modern effects that rival some of the best retro-inspired titles in recent years.

Set on the vast continent of Philabieldia, players take on the role of Elliot, a young adventurer tasked with uncovering the secrets of his world’s past. Accompanied by his fairy companion Faie, Elliot travels through different historical eras, facing off against beast tribes and uncovering hidden ruins beyond the safety of the Kingdom of Huther. The result is a narrative that weaves together exploration, real-time combat, and deep customization, all wrapped in an art style that instantly recalls popular games like Octopath Traveler and Live A Live.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales’ Features

  • BREATHTAKING HD-2D GRAPHICS blending pixel art with modern visual effects, a hallmark of Square Enix’s recent style.
  • REAL-TIME ACTION COMBAT ditching turn-based systems for sword swings, bow shots, and dynamic battles.
  • DIVERSE WEAPON TYPES with seven different weapons such as swords, bows, chains, and sickles with unique abilities.
  • MAGICITE CUSTOMIZATION, where players use collected magicite fragments to enhance weapons with extra effects.
  • FAIRY COMPANION SUPPORT, where Faie assists in combat, item gathering, and puzzles, with optional co-op control.
  • TIME-SPANNING STORY triggered by the mysterious Doorway of Time across past and present.
  • EXPANSIVE WORLD in the beast-ridden continent of Philabieldia and its varied ruins.

One of the more fascinating aspects of The Adventures of Elliot is how its time-traveling structure aims to impact both the gameplay and the tone of the story. Rather than being confined to a single period or setting, players will travel to various points in history, each with its own distinct visual flavor and place in the overarching narrative.

Early gameplay footage for The Adventures of Elliot showcased during the recent Nintendo Direct event highlighted environments ranging from pastoral landscapes to ancient ruins, offering glimpses at a world rich with lore and plenty of hidden corners to explore. This also suggests that the game’s time-spanning mechanics will not only be a story device but will also be central to how players interact with the world and the challenges it poses.

Fans who have already downloaded the debut demo, which launched alongside The Adventures of Elliot‘s initial announcement in July 2025, have praised the game’s combat and exploration. While the demo’s progress won’t carry over to the full game, it nonetheless gave players their first hands-on experience with Elliot’s weapon switching, magical enhancements, Faie’s unique support abilities, and a first look at its captivating world.

With its official release date now on the calendar, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is shaping up to be a major highlight of 2026’s upcoming game releases. With its beautiful HD-2D visuals, ambitious mechanics, and nostalgic yet modern design, it certainly sets some high expectation, but with Square Enix’s track record of quality RPGs, there’s plenty of reason to believe it will deliver.
