New Steam Game Coming August 11 Has Serious GoldenEye 007 Vibes

New Steam Game Coming August 11 Has Serious GoldenEye 007 Vibes

A new Steam game arriving very soon looks like the perfect spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007, with a sprinkle of Perfect Dark for good measure. Agent 64: Spies Never Die comes out on August 11 on Steam, and retro shooter fans should see this one as an absolute must-buy.

It has been a long road to release for Agent 64: Spies Never Die. The game released an alpha for Steam Next Fest back in 2021, with a new demo arriving afterward in 2022. Developer Replicant D6 also ran an online playtest earlier this year, which was later replaced by yet another single-player demo. In that respect, gamers have been able to try out various iterations of Agent 64: Spies Never Die for a while now, even if they’ve been made to wait a considerable amount of time for the full release.

New Co-Op Simulation Game Launches to Strong, 91% Very Positive Reviews

A brand-new simulation game with online co-op releases to overwhelmingly positive user reviews, with most players recommending it.

New Steam Game Looks Like the Second Coming of GoldenEye 007

After what is described by the developer as a “grueling 5 and a half years of work,” Agent 64: Spies Never Die is officially locked in for an August 11, 2026, release date. Its Steam page does not list a price for the upcoming title, nor is it available for pre-order yet, but it’s coming, and it looks incredible. The visual similarities to N64 classic GoldenEye 007 are immediately obvious, with its retro low-poly style enhanced by the lighting capabilities of a modern game engine. Even the name – Agent 64: Spies Never Die – sounds quintessentially Bond. This game has a hero of its own: Secret Agent John Walter, who gamers play as throughout its 14-mission campaign.

The developer does confirm that the game is a homage to the “beloved console shooters of the 90s,” and describes it as “straight out of the futuristic realm of 1997.” But the comparisons go further than just surface level. Just like GoldenEye 007, Agent 64: Spies Never Die features local split-screen multiplayer, as well as online matches with up to eight opponents. The entire campaign is playable in co-op, too. For something a little more goofy, the game also features Paradox Mode, which has over 70 modifiers and cheats that affect the gameplay, including Big Heads, Slow Bullet Speeds, No Reload, and more.

GoldenEye 007 is widely considered to be among the best and most influential first-person shooters of all time. In that regard, it’s easy to understand why gamers would want more games like GoldenEye 007, even if the FPS genre has continued to evolve in the many years since its release. That said, Agent 64: Spies Never Die still has a tough task ahead if it’s to live up to the expectations set by such a comparison.

Agent 64: Spies Never Die is a great example of the wide variety of games available on Steam. Gamers can find the latest and greatest AAA releases on the platform, sure, but it’s also home to countless indie games from smaller developers, too. There are tons of new games coming to Steam every single day, and it can be difficult for some to stand out from the crowd. Not for Agent 64: Spies Never Die, though, which immediately draws the eye with its nostalgic 90s-style graphics.
