Good Heavens! is an open-world survival-crafting Steam game that plays like Stardew Valley and Don’t Starve but looks like a wild episode of Adventure Time. Developed by the small indie team Nowhere Studios, Good Heavens! is set to launch in Steam Early Access on October 14, 2026.
Good Heavens! uses humor to build a goofy universe and tell a weird story. Its absurd, eccentric humor is one of the things it shares with Adventure Time, along with its vibrant, hand-drawn visuals. The game’s quirkiness kicks in early, as players take on the role of a clueless newcomer sucked into a surreal world created by a flamboyant god, the Mighty Rar. Rar then blatantly dubs them the chosen one and asks them to fix everything wrong with Xant-Rar, the bizarre world he has created.
Good Heavens! Arrives in Steam Early Access
Those intrigued by Good Heavens!‘s blend of dark humor and open-world life sim elements won’t have to wait long, as the game will release an early-access version on Steam on October 14. Developer Nowhere Studios initially planned to launch Good Heavens! earlier, but the game appears to have hit a few snags during Valve’s review process. In particular, the team seemingly had to label Good Heavens! as containing mature content because its unusual world features some nudist goblins and vampires with a peculiar taste in romance.
As the Mighty Rar puts it, Good Heavens! features “all the usual” elements of open-world survival-crafting games, including farming, foraging, fishing, and building. However, Nowhere Studios wants to scale back the survival mechanics and give players as much freedom as possible. For instance, food provides optional buffs rather than being a constant need to stay alive. The same goes for sleep, which is often mandatory in survival games. In Good Heavens!, players can explore, build their bases, and complete quests at any time of day, as sleeping is also optional.
Combat offers several playstyles, including close-range and long-range attacks, sorcery, and magic.
Good Heavens! also features co-op multiplayer, allowing up to eight players to join the same session and explore its procedural floating islands together. According to the developer, players can build a shared base, fight mobs, and take on bosses. Combat offers several playstyles, including close-range and long-range attacks, sorcery, and magic. That said, Good Heavens! is not a violent game. Although it features cartoonish gore, it is still very much a cozy game.
Developer Nowhere Studios says it has held “lots of playtests lately,” suggesting the team is confident about a smooth launch. That confidence is also evident in its Early Access plans. While some Stardew Valley-like games remain in EA for years, Nowhere Studios hopes to keep Good Heavens! in the program for just three months, provided things go as planned. Nowhere Studios also wants to expand the game’s universe with DLC and regular updates, so the 1.0 release won’t be the end for fans, and they will have more content to look forward to.
