New Steam Game With 8-Player Co-Op is Completely Free to Play

Steam gamers can now play a brand-new 8-player co-op game with serious Hotline Miami vibes completely free of charge. Monday Meltdown is the debut title from developer NF Mynster, and has immediately caught the eye on Steam thanks to its gameplay centered on creating bloody carnage against friends in chaotic co-op fun.

Steam always has plenty of free games available for gamers to pick up. Although limited time free-to-keep promotions are few and far between, there are plenty of temporary free-to-play periods where gamers can try out paid gamers without charge. Outside of specific promotions, Steam also has a vast array of amazing free-to-play games across all genres, meaning users don’t necessarily have to spend tons of money in order to bulk up their gaming libraries. Steam is adding tons of great free-to-play games all the time, which is especially true in the era of accessible indie development.

New Free Steam Co-Op Game Has Serious Hotline Miami Vibes

Monday Meltdown officially released on Steam on February 9, developed by solo developer NF Mynster and is available completely free of charge. The game involves 8-player co-op gameplay, where players must destroy their friends across various game modes using a variety of weapons. This top-down 2D title is totally chaotic, and the gameplay looks like pure mayhem, with tons of character and weapon skins to unlock along the way. What is really striking is just how bloody the gameplay is, which admittedly may not be for the faint of heart, even in 2D. Its gameplay looks extremely similar to Hotline Miami, which makes sense, given the fact that NF Mynster actually lists it as one of the game’s inspirations. In this instance, it’s certainly a complimentary comparison – “Hotline Miami with co-op” feels like a no-brainer, and it looks just as fun in practice as it sounds in theory. In an era where co-op Steam games are thriving, it’s easy to see how Monday Meltdown could appeal to users. For those who don’t have enough friends who want to play this game, Monday Meltdown has bot support, so it’s possible to play solo, too.

It’s worth noting that Monday Meltdown was originally in Early Access for over two years before finally releasing. The game has enjoyed tons of updates over the last couple of years, making great use of the Early Access program to refine the gameplay. It’s cool to see a passion project like this reach the finish line, and it will be interesting to see if it continues to receive post-launch support going forward.

As it stands, the Steam reviews for Monday Meltdown sit at “Very Positive,” with 96% of reviews being positive. Many of the game’s reviews were posted throughout the Early Access period, with praise going towards the speed and fluidity of the gameplay. One user described it as a “hidden gem,” although they did point out that it “just needs more people.”

Gamers should always be on the lookout for new Steam freebies, as there’s always something great around the corner. It’s the indie titles that are sometimes the best when it comes to free gems, as they will often take more risks and try something innovative, even if it can be a little rough around the edges. Despite this, those who want to game without burning a huge hole in their wallet absolutely can do so, if they’re willing to look around for the best free Steam games.
