New Steam Sims Competitor is Already a Big Hit

New Steam Sims Competitor is Already a Big Hit

Paralives, the new Steam game competing against EA’s massive The Sims 4, is seeing major success on the platform already. Though Paralives still has a lot of room left to grow, as the title is in early access, its success so far shows that fans of the life sim genre are excited for more.

The Sims, as a franchise, has largely gone unchallenged for decades, with The Sims 4 still standing strong in 2026 despite releasing 12 years ago. EA has kept the title going with a steady stream of updates and new content, and in that time, challengers have begun to arrive, including Paralives.

Sims Game Suddenly Delisted

One of the most underrated entries in The Sims franchise has been mysteriously delisted by EA, leaving its future in question.

The Sims Competitor Paralives Sees Big Success Early On

The Sims competitor Paralives launched in Early Access on Steam for Mac and PCs on May 25, and the title immediately saw great success. The developers shared a message thanking their audience after Paralives sold 250,000 copies within the first eight hours of being available. These numbers are even more impressive when taking its Monday launch into consideration, as more gamers will likely pick up the game over the weekend when they have time to play. However, its playerbase so far is strong as well, with a peak of over 78,000 gamers checking out the title on its launch date, and nearly 50,000 actively playing the game at time of publication.

With Paralives and fellow Sims competitor InZOI now in Early Access, it’s fair to compare the two games. Paralives has been praised for having more accessible system requirements than InZOI, which may also make it more enticing to fans of The Sims 4. InZOI notably calls for an Nvidia RTX 2060 at the minimum to play, while Paralives can work with a video card as old as the GTX 1060. Given The Sims 4‘s age, though, there’s still a huge disparity between its system requirements and its competitors’, with The Sims 4 only needing an Nvidia GeForce 6600 or better to play.

So far, reviews of Paralives have been largely positive, with most who have played it understanding that the title is in Early Access and has some wrinkles to iron out. However, the promise that Paralives will add a number of exciting features that are locked behind DLC in The Sims 4 will likely also help to buoy the game as it continues to evolve. Though unavailable for now, Paralives states that it will add things like weather, pets, vehicles, gardening, and more within the Early Access period. These features will also be completely free, which many Sims 4 fans fatigued by DLC releases will likely see as a major boon.

It will be interesting to see how Paralives‘ future pans out. InZOI, in comparison, saw similar numbers at launch, reaching a peak of 87,000 in its first week on Steam. However, that has since dropped dramatically, with the game currently seeing averages of around 3,000 concurrent player counts in recent days. The speed at which Paralives adds new content and addresses issues will likely determine how popular it remains during Early Access. In any case, it’s clear that The Sims 4 now has competitors gunning for it, giving players more options in the process.
