New Switch 2 Game Has Serious Pokemon Vibes

New Switch 2 Game Has Serious Pokemon Vibes

The creature-collecting genre has always had a pretty simple appeal: find a cool creature, figure out what makes it strong, and spend time turning it into something capable of taking on tougher opponents. Pokemon helped make that formula one of gaming’s biggest, but plenty of other games have taken the idea in different directions over the years—across all platforms like the Nintendo Switch 2. Some focus more on collecting, while others put more emphasis on training, strategy, or the relationship between a player and their creatures. Others leverage the hardware like the Nintendo Switch 2 more than others.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has built up an interesting selection of games outside of Nintendo’s biggest first-party releases. The system has already become home to upgraded versions of existing games, new releases, and smaller projects that can easily get overlooked next to the platform’s biggest names. One upcoming Switch 2 release, however, could be worth watching for anyone who enjoys raising monsters and building a team around their strengths (especially Pokemon fans looking for something a little different).

New Nintendo Switch 2 Console Officially Announced

Nintendo officially announces a brand-new version of its beloved Switch 2 hardware.

Mamon King Lands on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8

The game is Mamon King, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, with an exclusive bonus that gives the new version something extra. Players take on the role of special beings who can connect with Mamons, monsters summoned from another world, then raise and train them with a mix of kindness and discipline. The goal is ultimately to win tournaments, defeat the strongest Mamon, and become the world’s Mamon King. The Switch 2 version also includes a new Key Visual and BGM Gallery Mode, although its save data is not compatible with the existing Nintendo Switch version.

There are 38 unique Mamons to raise, with different appearances, training specialties, and lifespans. Mamon King also features more than 170 skills, giving individual creatures plenty of options beyond basic attacking and defending. Battles use a 1-on-1 command system where skills consume SP, with stronger abilities requiring more of the resource or even additional sacrifices. Training also goes beyond simply preparing for the next fight, with weekly decisions at home, tournaments, and board game-style Expeditions through unexplored areas that can contain ancient Mamons.

Mamon King has already had plenty of time to prove itself on Steam, and the response has been notably positive. The Steam version currently has a Very Positive rating, with 90% of 605 user reviews recommending the game. Players have also compared its monster-raising structure to games such as Monster Rancher, while the Steam page itself lists tags including Creature Collector, Farming Sim, Turn-Based Tactics, and Card Battler. Mamon King’s reception suggests there is more to the concept than simply looking like another Pokemon-style creature-collecting game.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version gives Mamon King another opportunity to find an audience, particularly among players who enjoy the creature-raising side of games like Pokemon but want something built around a different progression system. With its focus on training, tournaments, inheritance, Expeditions, and tactical battles, Mamon King is clearly trying to carve out its own place in the genre. The Switch 2 edition arrives on October 8, making it an especially easy one to keep an eye on for anyone looking for a new monster-raising game.
