New Vegas Director Comments on Amazon Series

Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer recently shared his thoughts on the Fallout live-action series, offering high praise for the video game adaptation. Sawyer refers to the Amazon Fallout series as an “amazing adaptation,” while also sharing his thoughts on some inaccuracies.

The live-action adaptation based on the Bethesda post-apocalyptic adventure series has been a hit with both fans and critics since its debut in 2024. Many have praised its faithfulness to the original video game franchise, with franchise creator Tim Cain even hailing the series for accurately capturing the mood and feel of the games. Fallout was nominated for numerous awards following its first season, winning “Best Adaptation” at the 2024 Game Awards and even being nominated for a Primetime Emmy for “Outstanding Drama.” Now, another Fallout executive is heaping praise on the series.

Fallout: New Vegas Director Has High Praise for Amazon Series

In an interview with YouTuber The 41st Precinct, Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer gave his own remarks on the live-action series. Sawyer called the Fallout series “one of the best adaptations” of a video game he has seen, though he did note that the bar is typically low for game adaptations. Sawyer had particularly strong feelings about Justin Theroux’s portrayal of Mr. House in the live-action series, saying that he excelled in the role. The New Vegas director stated that any critiques he had of the live-action series were very minor, mostly creative differences with how he would have approached specific plot points or characters.

Josh Sawyer took some time in the interview to address some Fallout fans’ criticisms of specific inaccuracies in the series, as well. Many fans questioned the positioning of the statue of Dinky the T-Rex in Novac, facing in the opposite direction from the game version. Sawyer addressed the fan concerns and shared that he understood why fans were upset, though he felt the change worked better for Lucy’s involvement in the scene as a sniper within the live-action adaptation. Overall, Sawyer was satisfied with the Amazon series’ portrayal of iconic New Vegas settings, like Freeside and Novac.

The success of Fallout‘s live-action adaptation comes as reports suggest that big developments may be in the works for the franchise. A leaked listing from toy manufacturer McFarlane from early June 2026 could be hinting at an upcoming remaster of Fallout: New Vegas, including a figure wearing the New Vegas-exclusive Scorched Sierra Power Armor. Previous McFarlane listings similarly hinted at a potential Fallout 3 remaster to launch in summer 2026, with a toy based on the game said to be launching in July.

Fallout fans have also continued to wait for news about the next major entry in the video game franchise. More than a decade has passed since the original release of Fallout 4 in 2015, with Bethesda still not announcing Fallout 5 in any official capacity. The developer has already confirmed that Fallout 5 is not next on its internal schedule and is reportedly shifting gears to focus on The Elder Scrolls 6. Fallout 76 has also continued to receive new support, recently revealing that the CAMPanion pets from Fallout 4 will be added to the game. Fallout‘s legion of fans may still be waiting a while for the next major new game, with the live-action series and Fallout 76 aiming to bridge that gap.
