A new Nintendo Direct presentation will take place by mid-June, according to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb. While a short Nintendo Direct centered exclusively around the new Star Fox game took place earlier this month, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on the next true event. Nintendo tends to remain secretive about these kinds of presentations, rarely offering too much advance warning.

The first anniversary of Switch 2 is quickly coming up, and plans for the system in the second half of 2026 remain a very big mystery. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox, and Splatoon Raiders will all be released between May and July, but nothing else has been announced. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will arrive sometime this year, and a Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is rumored for the holiday season. The next Nintendo Direct should offer a clearer idea of what to expect before the year’s end.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Reviews Are In

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book comes to Nintendo Switch 2 very soon, and reviewers are sharing their thoughts ahead of launch.

When to Expect the Next Nintendo Direct

In an episode of the Giant Bombcast, Jeff Grubb said that the next Nintendo Direct will happen by mid-June, while noting that he is not aware of an exact date. Summer Game Fest kicks off on June 5, and Grubb speculates the Nintendo Direct should take place sometime around that same time frame. He also noted that he has been unable to nail down whether this will be a general Nintendo Direct, or a Partner Showcase. However, Grubb seems to be leaning towards a general Direct, thanks to its proximity to other industry shows.

Traditionally speaking, Nintendo Direct presentations have frequently taken place in the month of June, offering the company an opportunity to lay out plans for the second half of the year. For example, the Nintendo Direct in June 2023 offered the first glimpse at Super Mario Bros. Wonder, ahead of the game’s release in the fall. With a price increase coming in September, Nintendo wants to increase Switch 2’s ownership value. A big Nintendo Direct in June could help the company sell that message, especially if it has some big new games to announce.

While the last year has seen a lot of strong support for Nintendo Switch 2, many fans are eager to get a clearer picture of the system’s future. There have been Mario Kart World DLC rumors, but the game has seen little in the way of substantial new content over the last year. Fans also want to know about the successors to big Switch games like Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There’s no indication that these things will be revealed anytime soon, but Nintendo does need to start getting fans excited for things to come in 2027.

If a Nintendo Direct really is set to take place in June, fans shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to hear an announcement. The next few months have a lot for Switch 2 owners to look forward to, but it does seem like it’s time for Nintendo to pull back the curtain on the rest of 2026 and beyond. Pokemon Winds and Waves should help sell plenty of Switch 2 consoles in 2027, but there has to be more in the meantime. Hopefully, fans will get to see some new software that helps them feel justified in buying a Switch 2.
