Nintendo Gives Official New Update on Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake

Alongside the game’s official ESRB rating, Nintendo gives fans a quick update on the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Nintendo’s been quiet ever since the initial reveal of Zelda: Ocarina of Time‘s new Nintendo Switch 2 remake, which, even though it leaked online ahead of time, was a massive surprise for fans the world over.

Indeed, many fans didn’t even believe the rumors/leaks of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, yet it came true. That alone adds credence to rumors surrounding the next open-world Zelda game, which is believed to add cross-dimensional gameplay to the Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom formula, as well as the next 2D spin-off rumored to be like Echoes of Wisdom but focused on Ganondorf. While it remains to be seen if those prove true too, the Ocarina of Time remake is real and has received an ESRB rating + release date update.

New Zelda-Themed Switch 2 Console Leaked

As anticipation for the Ocarina of Time remake grows, a new leak indicates that Nintendo is working on a Zelda-themed version of the Switch 2.

Nintendo Reaffirms Ocarina of Time Remake’s 2026 Release Plans Alongside ESRB Rating

As first reported by Vice, Nintendo recently updated Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake’s product page for the Nintendo Switch 2. The biggest addition is its Everyone 10+ rating from the ESRB, which includes “Animated Blood’ and “Fantasy Violence.” It’s worth noting that this is slightly higher than the original release of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which was rated E for Everyone, because the E10+ rating did not exist when it released. The E10+ was introduced in 2005, meaning that the 3DS version of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time also received an E10+ rating. Of course, most fans are not surprised by this but are perhaps happy to know that this update did not mess with release information at all.

On the official Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake Nintendo eShop page, the game is still listed with a “releases in 2026” tag. If there wereany delay for Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on the table, it seems likely that Nintendo would have softened its eShop page, showcasing some confidence that the game will hit the market this year. And with August arriving, there’s little time left. Many fans are expecting Nintendo to host a Direct soon that gives out its release date, if it doesn’t focus on it entirely.

Ocarina of Time Remake Reborn Across Time

Indeed, assuming this happens in the coming weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if its part of a general Nintendo Direct, a dedicated Direct, or a Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary Direct. The OG game released on February 21, 2026, so it would be a few months “late,” but fans probably wouldn’t mind if news on Zelda games as a whole dropped, just led by the Ocarina of Time remake. For now, that’s all speculation, but the ESRB rating and release date affirmation are all exciting regardless.

For now, fans can only wait and see what Nintendo wants to do. It’s hard to imagine the game releasing in September because of the sheer number of releases, and it would seem that November (as Ocarina of Time could compete with GTA 6‘s release date) or December are the most likely release windows at this point. If the latter, Nintendo fans are going to have a good Christmas, that’s for sure.
