Nintendo is now issuing a new warning about its Switch 2 console. Nintendo released the Switch 2 in 2025, with the new home console/handheld hybrid quickly becoming one of the fastest-selling video game systems of all time. The Switch 2 is outpacing its predecessor’s sales, and if it keeps that momentum, it will find itself in the company of giants like the PS2, the DS, and the OG Switch.
While the Switch 2 has been a monumental success for Nintendo, it hasn’t been without its bumps in the road. Tariffs cast doubt on the Switch 2’s asking price in the US before it was released, and now, thanks to the ongoing parts shortage and various global economic problems, Nintendo is officially raising the price of the console.
When is the Switch 2 Price Increase Happening?

Nintendo is now warning customers about the Switch 2 price increase when they stop by its demo kiosk at various retailers. This warning message was spotted by Reddit user Mushroom0064, though it’s unclear exactly how widespread the warning message is and if it applies to all Switch 2 demo kiosks. The warning simply states that the suggested retail price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to increase to $499.99 starting September 1. This way, customers aren’t caught off-guard if they go to buy a Switch 2 after September 1 and find that the price has increased, and it may also be enough to convince some shoppers to buy one early and potentially save some money in the process.
While it’s disappointing that the Switch 2 price is increasing to $499.99, there is one bright side to it. Nintendo has confirmed that it will be releasing a new Switch 2 bundle that lets players choose their own game after the price increase goes into effect. New Switch 2 owners will get to choose between Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Pokemon Pokopia – the three most popular games on the platform by far. And since all three of these games are more than $50 (with Mario Kart World costing a staggering $80 standalone), Switch 2 owners that were planning on getting one of these games for their console will technically be saving some money.
There’s another reason why those in the market for a Switch 2 may still want to hold out on buying one. A Zelda-themed Switch 2 console was recently leaked, alongside a Zelda Pro Controller. While these new devices have yet to be officially revealed by Nintendo, it’s assumed that they will be coinciding with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, itself set to launch at some point later this year.
A September 2026 Nintendo Direct is rumored to be taking place, with some speculating that the event will be Zelda-themed. Nintendo needs to announce the new leaked Switch 2 hardware, after all, and it is the franchise’s 40th anniversary this year. Time will tell if that rumored Direct comes to pass, but what we do know for sure is that the Switch 2 is getting $50 more expensive starting September 1, so fans should plan accordingly.
