The upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will bring back 100-Pin Bowling. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will come with a dozen sports that will take advantage of the Joy-Con 2’s unique features.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is the latest entry in Nintendo’s motion control sports game lineup. Nintendo’s first foray into sports mini-games that utilize motion controls was 2006’s Wii Sports, which was the pack-in game for Wii consoles. Wii Sports went on to be one of Nintendo’s best multiplayer games and one of the best-selling games of all time. Wii Sports was followed up by titles like Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports Club, and Nintendo Switch Sports.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is Bringing Back 100-Pin Bowling
With fans soon returning to Wuhu Island for the launch of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, Nintendo quietly updated one of its websites to tease the return of a popular mode. Nintendo updated the official Japanese website for Nintendo Switch Sports Resort and confirmed that 100-Pin Bowling would be included in the upcoming Switch 2 title. 100-Pin Bowling was previously featured in Wii Sports Resort and Wii Sports Club as a special side mode from the standard Bowling mini-game. However, 100-Pin Bowling was notably absent from Nintendo Switch Sports. Similar to the maximum score of 300 in standard bowling, the maximum score for 100-Pin Bowling is 3,000. While daunting, there was a workaround in Wii Sports Resort that made the feat much easier to pull off.

In short, players could hit a hidden button behind the pins by carefully rolling their bowling ball on the left gutter rail, which would cause all 100 pins to fall and grant the player a strike. It remains to be seen if a similar Easter egg will be included in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. As for the upcoming title, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will use the Joy-Con 2’s built-in mouse functionality and gyroscope controls to allow players to use the controllers as bows, paddles, rackets, and golf clubs. Players can also create customizable Sportsmate or Mii characters to use as their virtual avatars on Wuhu Island.
The October 22 launch of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will come over four years after Nintendo Switch Sports was released. Given that Nintendo Switch Sports sold over a million copies within its first year of availability despite mixed reviews, time will tell if Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will reach similar sales numbers. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is currently available to pre-order digitally for $49.99 on the Nintendo Store, though it remains to be seen if or when physical editions will be available.
Along with 100-Pin Bowling, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will include other games that can be played with one hand, such as Thumb Wrestling and Table Tennis. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will also support local and online play for one to four players, though an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription will be necessary for the latter.
