Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 users can play the full version of NBA 2K26 free for a limited time, provided they have a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. The free sports game on Switch and Switch 2 comes as part of Nintendo’s Game Trials offerings for Nintendo Switch Online.
Nintendo’s paid Switch subscription service offers a wide variety of perks for gamers willing to pay. The Nintendo Classics service offers an array of classic games from the NES, SNES, and Game Boy with the base subscription, with the Expansion Pass offering newer Nintendo consoles like the N64 and Game Boy Advance. Nintendo Switch Online also gives players access to free DLC content for some first-party games, including the Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Now, Nintendo is giving subscribers the chance to try out a recent sports game for no additional charge.
Nintendo Switch Players Can Try NBA 2K26 for Free

Nintendo’s newest Game Trial is giving fans the chance to try out the full version of NBA 2K26 for no additional charge. The Game Trial allows fans to download either the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 version of NBA 2K26, with subscribers able to access the full game and online multiplayer. Once the trial period for NBA 2K26 ends, progress in game modes like MyCareer and The City carries over if players buy the full game. Nintendo’s NBA 2K26 Game Trial is set to run until August 13 at 11:59 p.m. PDT, with the game unable to launch after the trial ends unless the full game is purchased.

NBA 2K26 features a plethora of improvements from previous entries in the franchise, both on and off the court. The newest game adds multiple options to NBA 2K‘s MyPlayer builder, allowing players to customize their in-game character, including custom layup packages and new animations. The game also introduced the ProPLAY motion engine, overhauling player collision and momentum, speeding up the game, and giving players new options for crossovers and combinations in-game.
The free trial of NBA 2K26 on Switch comes as 2K is gearing up to debut the next entry in the annual basketball franchise. 2K has already set the date for the full gameplay reveal of NBA 2K27, planning to officially unveil the franchise’s 2026 iteration on August 18. The developer previously confirmed who will star on the cover of NBA 2K27, with San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama set to take the spotlight in the newest game. 2K has also confirmed a break from its reveal structure with NBA 2K27, planning to reveal all the details about the newest game with its August 18 presentation.
Nintendo’s Game Trials program has been an effective way for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to try out popular games. EA Sports has regularly partnered with Nintendo to give fans the chance to try out its new games, including EA Sports FC 26 in June and the Switch 2 version of Madden NFL 26 in January. Popular roguelike Ball x Pit was also offered through Game Trials in late May 2026, just over a month after the game received its second major post-launch update. Game Trials continue to be an enticing offer for fans using Nintendo’s premium online service.
