GameStop has changed quite a bit over the years, but perhaps nowhere has that been more “era-ending” than with the GameStop Pro membership. The shift away from physical games has led to hundreds of GameStop store closures, while the company has also explored ways to expand beyond the traditional video game retailer model. Even with all of those changes, some parts of GameStop have remained familiar to longtime customers.
One of the biggest examples has been GameStop Pro, which has continued to offer several perks for customers willing to pay for the annual membership. Pro members can get extra trade-in value, exclusive discounts, free shipping, extended returns, and other benefits throughout the year. The program has also given GameStop customers another reason to keep coming back to the store (especially those who buy or trade games regularly), but one of its more recognizable perks is now going away.

GameStop is discontinuing the ability to earn points through its regular Pro Membership program starting November 1, 2026. Existing members will keep their current Pro benefits until their memberships expire, but once that happens, they will no longer earn up to 20 points per $1 spent through the standard GameStop Pro program. The GameStop Pro Credit Card will still offer 20 points per $1, meaning the points system is effectively being shifted away from Pro Membership and toward the credit card.

There has already been a timeline for this change, although the latest notice gives existing members a little more time with their current benefits. Corporate previously told store employees that new GameStop Pro members would stop earning Pro Points on July 15, with points for members who renewed before that date expiring on August 15. The newer notice instead says the regular Pro points benefit will officially end for members once their current memberships expire, with November 1 marking the start of the broader change.

The timing is especially notable because GameStop Pro still costs $25 per year, meaning the membership is losing one of its more tangible financial benefits without getting a corresponding price reduction. Other Pro perks will remain in place, but the removal of points could make the membership less appealing for customers who primarily used it to slowly build up rewards from everyday purchases. This also comes after Game Informer was removed from the membership following the magazine’s 2024 shutdown (though it has since returned under new management). In other words, membership has only become less valuable in the past couple of years.

It’s worth reiterating that the GameStop Pro Credit Card provides a way to keep earning those 20 points per $1, but asking customers to use a credit card to retain a benefit that was previously part of the regular membership is a pretty significant change. Whether that makes Pro less valuable will probably depend on how often someone shops at GameStop, but it is easy to see why the change could leave some members questioning what they are actually getting for the annual fee.
