NSFW Game Cancels Steam Release Due To ‘Policy Requirements’

Fresh off Steam banning horror game Horses from its platform, another game has announced that it is canceling its planned release on the storefront due to Valve’s “policy requirements.” BrownDust2, a very NSFW gacha game, will no longer be coming to Valve’s PC platform.

In a statement on the game’s official website, Neowiz and GAMFSN announced that, after some internal debate, the companies have decided not to release the game on Steam. The post itself is vague on details, and we’ve reached out for comment on the specifics of the issue, but the makers have decided that whatever the game included that Steam found objectionable “cannot be reasonably resolved.”

The companies say that meeting whatever Steam policy the game originally broke would not allow them to “preserve the game’s core direction and overall quality.” The full statement reads as follows:

First of all, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who has been looking forward to our Steam release.

We have been preparing for a Steam launch for a long time, but during coordination with the platform’s policy requirements, we encountered an issue that cannot be reasonably resolved with the current version of the game.

After extensive internal discussion, we have decided not to proceed with a Steam release. We deeply regret disappointing all of you who were waiting and cheering us on.

We considered multiple options to make the release possible, but in order to preserve the game’s core direction and overall quality, we came to the conclusion that making the necessary adjustments at this time would not be appropriate.

For everyone who supported the Steam release, we will still be distributing all previously announced rewards, including: Community event rewards related to Steam, and Wishlist milestone rewards These will be sent out after the December 16 update.

We are currently exploring alternative PC platforms that can provide a better environment for BrownDust2, and once a direction is confirmed, we will share the details with you as soon as possible.

We sincerely apologize for not being able to meet your expectations this time, and we will do our best to repay your support with a more stable and satisfying service.

At the moment, the running theory is that something about BrownDust2’s NSFW content was an issue for Valve, but you can stumble upon porn on Steam if you sneeze at it wrong, so that might not be it. We’ve reached out to Neowiz for clarity on the matter and will update the story if we hear back.
