While all eyes are on the upcoming Netflix Extended Look debut of GTA 6 (as well as the ongoing GTA 6 gameplay leaks), Red Dead Redemption 2 has been getting some work too—if not directly from Rockstar and Take-Two—that releases on September 16. This should be exciting for fans of Rockstar and its IPs, as it gives fans yet another reason to return to RDR2 ahead of GTA 6‘s November release date.
Red Dead Redemption 2 never got the story expansion many fans wanted, leaving one of Rockstar’s biggest open-world games without a traditional single-player DLC follow-up. That has not stopped the modding community from filling in the gap, though, and one ambitious project is now giving players a reason to head south of the border.
Red Dead 2: Nuevo Paraiso Release Date Officially Announced by Mod Developer
Mod developer Rixus has officially confirmed that the fan-made DLC, Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier, releases on September 16, brings Mexico into Red Dead Redemption 2, and further connects the game to the events of the original Red Dead Redemption. It may not be an official DLC for the game, but the modder has officially confirmed its release date, finally letting the DLC take shape. Its new release date trailer shows off Mexican locations alongside new settlements, gang hideouts, treasure hunts, minigames, bounty-hunter missions, random encounters, and other activities designed to make Mexico feel like another part of the Red Dead Redemption 2 world.

One of the biggest additions is a playable Sadie Adler, who serves as the recommended protagonist for The Forgotten Frontier. Sadie is already one of the most important characters in Red Dead Redemption 2, and her story leaves plenty of room for an adventure outside the game’s main setting. She previously mentions traveling to South America, so having her pass through Mexico provides the mod with a way to expand her story without completely breaking established Red Dead Redemption lore. Arthur Morgan or John Marston are also options.
This is also not mod author Roxis724’s first attempt at bringing Mexico to Red Dead Redemption 2. The developer previously created a Mexico expansion that ultimately became the foundation for Nuevo Paraiso, but the project has grown substantially in the years since. Its January development update, for example, specifically points toward the oppression, despair, and social tension in Mexico during Red Dead 2’s time period. The goal is not just to build another map, but to create an experience that reflects the historical circumstances surrounding Mexico before the Mexican Revolution of 1911.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
The historical context makes Nuevo Paraiso a must-play Red Dead Redemption 2 mod, especially for those who have spent years yearning for Mexico. The project is currently slated to release for free on PC through Nexus Mods on September 16, giving Red Dead Redemption 2 fans a substantial new adventure to look forward to.
