Oblivion Remastered Officially Revealed for Switch 2

Oblivion Remastered Officially Revealed for Switch 2

Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer. Since the system’s launch last year, Nintendo Switch 2 has seen a number of ports of existing games that weren’t available on the company’s previous system. Several developers and publishers seem to be making up for lost time, porting over well-received games that were simply too powerful for the original Switch to reliably handle.

Bethesda announced multiple Switch 2 games earlier this year, and Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are currently available. The company has quickly proven to be a big early supporter of the new system, but there are still other major games that Bethesda could bring over. The most obvious example is Starfield, which has long been rumored for Nintendo Switch 2, but has yet to surface on the platform.

New Switch 2 Controllers Officially Revealed

Nintendo reveals a new pair of Joy-Con controllers for Switch 2, and they’ll be available for purchase in the very near future.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered received high praise when it came out last year, and a Switch 2 version was announced in February. Details about the Nintendo version had been slim at the time, but Bethesda has now confirmed a release date of August 11. Multiple editions will be offered, including standard and deluxe options. The standard will be digital only, while the deluxe edition will be offered for $59.99 for both the physical and digital versions. All options include the base game alongside the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions. The deluxe editions will also include a code for Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon Armors, Weapons, and Horse Armor Sets.

Since launching last year, Switch 2’s Game-Key Cards have been a source of controversy. Fans prefer it when publishers offer their physical games on actual cartridges, rather than Game-Key Cards which prompt downloads from the eShop. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered will be released with the base game on the Switch 2 cartridge, as well as the game’s story expansions. That should make the physical version more enticing for physical game collectors, especially those concerned about using too much space on the system.

Oblivion Remastered was a technically demanding game when it released last year, and there’s already some speculation about how the game will run on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Switch 2 has handled technically demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, and Bethesda’s port of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has received praise. Hopefully, the company’s next port will be equally well-received. The developers already seem to be taking advantage of the Switch 2 hardware at the very least, as Oblivion Remastered will have optional motion controls.

Switch 2 has been out for more than a year now, and it seems to be off to a very strong start for Nintendo. Not only has the system seen several high-profile exclusives, but it’s also attracting strong support from some of the biggest developers and publishers in the video game industry. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is yet another critically-acclaimed game coming to the system in a year that seems pretty packed. For those that have been eager to see the game released on Switch 2, the wait is nearly at an end.
