Nintendo has spent much of 2026 celebrating some major milestones for tentpole games like Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda, which celebrate their 30th and 40th anniversaries this year, respectively, as well as the 1st anniversary of the Nintendo Switch 2. And the Nintendo of America president discusses its plans, specifically around the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and Nintendo Switch 2, at the Technology Summit.
Of course, The Legend of Zelda is especially positioned for a super busy period, with Nintendo preparing both new game-related releases and other projects connected to the franchise. At the very least, fans know they are getting the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake in November and the live-action Zelda movie early next year.
Nintendo of America President Discusses Ocarina of Time Remake, Switch 2
Nintendo of America president and COO Devon Pritchard briefly discussed the company’s plans for The Legend of Zelda and Switch 2 during an interview with Variety at the aforementioned summit. Pritchard pointed to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which is coming exclusively to the Switch 2 in November, as one of the major pieces of what Nintendo has planned. In her own words, “This is just the beginning.” Pritchard also made clear that Nintendo has a lot of plans for the Switch 2 beyond these anniversaries as well. According to Pritchard,
“We’re at the beginning of Nintendo Switch 2…We’ve already had some really wonderful experiences, both ours and third-party, come to the table, and I can’t wait to see what the system is going to do and what our talented developers will bring to the table.”

Nintendo has already seen both its own games and third-party releases make an impact on the system during its first year, with truly exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 games outpacing both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but the gaming department is only one thing on the president’s mind. She was keen to highlight Nintendo’s partnerships with companies such as Sony and Sony Pictures (for the Legend of Zelda live-action movie) as part of a broader effort to bring its experiences to existing fans while also reaching new audiences.
For Nintendo, the longer-term strategy goes beyond simply releasing more games for its biggest franchises, even if its IPs do get revisited faster than many other companies. Pritchard said the company is focused on creating experiences that can build relationships with audiences across generations, even as consumers have more entertainment options than ever. That’s how Nintendo video games avoid losing players to TikTok or other time-consuming distractions. The Switch 2’s first year and Zelda‘s 40th anniversary only represent the opening stretch of a much larger period for Nintendo’s major IP.
Of course, fans will just have to wait and see how the Nintendo Switch 2 shakes out. Its sales are up, the console is beloved, and a game like Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is the console-seller it needs right now (as well as Pokemon Winds and Waves in 2027). 10 years from now, if not 20, 30, or 40, it’ll be interesting to look back at the Nintendo Switch 2 generation, and it seems Nintendo wants those memories to keep players around for decades.
