During a special Nintendo Direct for the 40th anniversary of the franchise, gameplay and a release date were revealed for the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Originally released in 1998, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is widely considered one of the greatest video games of all time. As the first 3D game in the series, it added several features that became staples, while inspiring countless other games and developers.
The remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be released on November 5, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. In addition to the release date, series producer Eiji Aonuma also offered a first look at gameplay. While the Ocarina of Time remake was announced in June, Nintendo notably avoided showing any of the gameplay. The Switch 2 version seems largely faithful to the N64 original, but will include several improvements that take advantage of the hardware. The visuals have been completely overhauled, and the game finally has a jump button, which is something missing from the original release.
