Official Assassin’s Creed Account Roasts YouTuber For Posting AI-Altered Leak

Earlier this week, Kotaku reported on the leak from well-known Ubisoft insider j0nathan, who claimed that playtests for a long-rumored PvP-style Assassin’s Creed title, codenamed “Invictus,” had been held in late April. Well, j0nathan is back with a new Assassin’s Creed Invictus leak, but said leak isn’t being as well-received as the last one…mostly because the official Assassin’s Creed X account put him on blast for using AI to “heavily” alter the image featured in the leak.

Last night, j0nathan posted what he claimed was an image from Assassin’s Creed Invictus’ latest playtest on X. Writing in French, j0nathan said, “A big part of the game isn’t textured yet, so don’t be surprised by the big gray blocks—it’s really just to give you a glimpse of what the game looks like right now.” The heavily watermarked accompanying image shows a character from the playtest standing in a coliseum.

Nice try… This might have started as an image from our private test, but it’s been heavily altered (most probably with AI). Not great to spread misinformation. 👎

For those genuinely curious about the project: we’ll share more when the time is right!

Just under two hours later, j0nathan’s post received a reply from the official Assassin’s Creed X account. “Nice try… This might have started as an image from our private test, but it’s been heavily altered (most probably with AI). Not great to spread misinformation,” reads the reply.

After some grandstanding about how Ubisoft had “totally screwed themselves” in the replies, j0nathan then posted the original, unaltered screenshot from Assassin’s Creed Invictus’ playtest “without AI.” Although he stated that the unsloppified version was “exactly the same crap,” it’s clear that whatever AI tool he used to alter it actually changed quite a lot.

Ok vu que le compte officiel fait le malin, voici le vrai screen sans IA (et malheureusement pour eux, c’est exactement la même merde 😂) https://t.co/9tJkwjQWid pic.twitter.com/V7gMtYuP99

For a start, the sky no longer looks like the default Windows XP wallpaper in the original version. The crowd looks less janky, too, and the player character is now standing on a more defined platform. Oh, and yeah, the outfit in the original image is now white, instead of the garish blue and scarlet red fit that the AI slop version is sporting.

While j0nathan seemingly sees this as some kind of victory, as he stated that Ubisoft has “just clearly confirmed” the leak and therefore bolstered his “credibility,” he’s also spent the better half of the past day arguing with people in the replies about getting ratio’d by the Assassin’s Creed X account. At least he can say he’s been embarrassed by the same X account that ratio’d Elon Musk last year. What’s the opposite of being in good company?
