Outside of a release window for 2024 and the general area where it will exist, details about Fallout 76’s upcoming map expansion are still minimal for the time being. Yet, while it’s still uncertain what exactly this content update will bring to the game, it would be a missed opportunity for Fallout 76 not to let players build their CAMPs in this new playable area.

Throughout the past few years, the recent updates for Fallout 76 have seemingly been making increased efforts to cater to the CAMP-building enthusiasts within the game’s community. So, even though it remains uncertain whether players will be able to build in this new area coming in Fallout 76’s 2024 map expansion, it would feel especially disappointing if this weren’t the case. Consequently, this expansion needs to include a mix of major points of interest as well as unmarked locations where players can freely build CAMPs.

Fallout 76’s New Map Expansion Area Should Be A Prime Site For Player CAMPs

Much like the settlements in Fallout 4, building CAMPs in Fallout 76 is one of the core gameplay features of the game. So much so that the community often jokes that building CAMPs is the true endgame grind of Fallout 76 above all else. There are multiple elements to building CAMPs that make it such an adventurous and personal feature. One such element is choosing the perfect location to build CAMPs in Fallout 76. So, with this content update namely bringing a new playable area to Fallout 76, the community will naturally be eager for the chance to build CAMPs in this new area.

A particular reason why it’s so important that this new region needs to include areas that are CAMP-friendly is that there will naturally be a lot of foot traffic here from players who are exploring the points of interest and completing the quests within this region. Consequently, all of this foot traffic in this area would make it a prime site to set up player vending machines in Fallout 76 to drive the game’s peer-to-peer trading market. Oftentimes, being in an easy-to-reach location makes all the difference in how much business a player will get at the shops in their CAMP. Otherwise, the popularity of this area also makes it a great spot for players to show off their creative CAMP-building skills in Fallout 76 to the biggest audiences.

Player CAMPs In Fallout 76 Are A Blessing And A Curse

However, while allowing players to build in this area is a must, the anticipated popularity of this area and it being such a lucrative spot to build CAMPs needs to be handled with particular care. Even if only a small portion of the community decides to build their CAMPs in this new area from Fallout 76’s upcoming map expansion, this could still quickly cause the area to become overcrowded on plenty of public servers. Such a problem could take away from players’ experiences exploring the natural features, secrets, and other environmental spectacles that this area will include.

Players are normally prevented from building CAMPs directly next to any marked locations in
Fallout 76
. However, it’s a popular trend for players to build onto existing structures that can be found at unmarked locations since these are generally unrestricted areas to build in.

Ultimately, the new area coming in Fallout 76’s 2024 map expansion needs to have a proper balance of both CAMP-friendly areas and designated locations where players can’t build. Otherwise, not letting players build here at all or letting players build without appropriate restrictions would likely lead to controversy among Fallout 76’s community of this area being either overcrowded or too empty.
