One of the most anticipated housing updates coming to Final Fantasy 14 has been pushed back yet again. The news arrived during the recent Final Fantasy 14 Fanfest in Japan, disappointing players.
Final Fantasy 14 has pushed back the release of Evercold by about a month, due to the team needing a bit more time to ensure everything is completed and polished. However, another feature has been delayed even further, and fans have already been waiting for it for a very long time.
Final Fantasy 14 Delays Housing Expansion Update Again

During the Final Fantasy 14 Fanfest Keynote in Tokyo, Japan, game director Yoshi-P discussed the planned housing update coming to the game. The housing update, which will give players the ability to pay to upgrade the interior of their small and medium housing plots to a large-sized interior, has been delayed again. Yoshi-P stated that the update has now been pushed back to the 8.1 update. While an exact date wasn’t offered, the 7.1 update released about four months after the Dawntrail 7.0 expansion arrived, so players likely shouldn’t expect 8.1 to land prior to June 2027.
The 8.1 update will also include a couple other changes to the housing system in the game. A new housing interface will be released, which will allow for midair placement of furnishings, which is something that’s currently only possible through complex floating mechanics that rely upon glitches. Furthermore, the update will also add more housing plots, which should help to alleviate some of the ongoing demand, as the current housing system doesn’t have enough plots for everyone. However, Yoshi-P didn’t go so far as to say whether these new plots will be in existing housing districts, or if new districts will be added to the game.
The news of the housing interior expansion delay has particularly frustrated players, as it’s not the first time it’s been pushed back. The feature was originally announced back in 2024, and was set to arrive sometime in the patch cycle after the 7.1 update. It was then further delayed earlier in 2026, but was still expected to likely arrive during the post-Dawntrail patch cycle. If it does actually arrive in 8.1 as most recently promised, the new feature will be landing three years after it was initially brought up.
Thankfully, Final Fantasy 14 has made some improvements to housing in recent times, including the addition of a new internal style and expansions to storage and furnishing limits. Since keeping a house in Final Fantasy 14 requires maintaining a paid subscription and regularly logging in, though, players who have been staying active to ensure they can eventually upgrade their houses are feeling fed up. The recent World of Warcraft housing system, which doesn’t require maintaining a subscription and doesn’t have limited plots, has likely only added salt to the wound for FF14 players. But on the plus side, there will be plenty outside of housing to look forward to in Final Fantasy 14 soon. The Fanfest also revealed the new ranged DPS class Zephyr, and players will have a brand-new MSQ to dive into in a few months’ time.
