The Lego Game Boy is a perfect Lego set. Easily one of the best sets released in years and, without a doubt, the best Lego x Nintendo set we’ve received so far, the Lego Game Boy is worth owning even if you aren’t much of a fan of the plastic bricks. And being able to buy this set for under $50 is incredible.
Released last year to much fanfare, the Lego Game Boy is a nearly 1:1 scale recreation of Nintendo’s iconic handheld gaming console built entirely using Lego pieces and bricks. If that was all it was, just a nice-looking recreation of the Game Boy, it would be worth grabbing. But there’s more here than just the Game Boy. Each set comes with a handy stand to display the console, extra brick-built game carts that you can swap in and out, and even a few lenticular holographic-like screens that you can slide into the Game Boy to simulate booting up a classic game.
Normally, the Lego Game Boy is $60 plus tax. But as spotted by Wario64, Macy’s is selling the set for just $48. That’s a steal considering many Lego collectors and superfans, myself included, expected this set to cost closer to $80+ before it was officially revealed.
I have no idea how long this sale will last or how many spare Lego Game Boys Macy’s has in a warehouse somewhere, so I wouldn’t wait too long to take advantage of this deal. Not only is this one of the coolest Lego sets ever made, but it is also one of the most fun to build, with little Easter eggs throughout for Nintendo nerds and retro gamers to spot as they put it together.
