Pearl Abyss has announced that Crimson Desert is planned to come out on Switch 2 in 2027. In fact, the developer behind the huge hit–which has sold over 4 million copies on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S–has a rough release window sometime between January and June.
The open-world action game heading to Switch 2 had previously been discussed by Pearl Abyss, but the company’s latest earnings letter confirms Crimson Desert for the hybrid system. “In the case of Switch 2, the game has reached a playable baseline, and we are currently conducting technical reviews regarding performance optimization and quality standard compliance, targeting a release in the first half of next year,” the financial briefing states.
Switch 2 is the only system listed for platform expansion of Crimson Desert, with Pearl Abyss adding that no mobile version is currently planned. How the game translates to the hybrid system will be fascinating, since it offers such a ridiculous sandbox to play with. The developer is also “currently conducting extensive research from both technical and gameplay perspectives” regarding multiplayer for the game. However, the company is clear that introducing multiplayer is a “complex” endeavor.
