There are a lot of Legend of Zelda fans in the world, and it turns out that Oscar-winning actress Sally Field is among those ranks. Over the years, The Legend of Zelda has become one of the most well-known video game franchises around, and Sally Field has been playing since the early days of the series.

This year marked The Legend of Zelda‘s 40th anniversary. It’s hard for any game to become a full-blown franchise, but it’s even more impressive when that legacy spans four decades. Such longevity is really hard to achieve, and it showcases the impact that The Legend of Zelda has had on both gaming and pop culture in general. The franchise’s reach spans generations, and Sally Field has a charming story about how she first got into The Legend of Zelda.

The 20 Best Games Like Breath Of The Wild

The following games may not be Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, but they will certainly scratch the same itch as Nintendo’s open-world masterpiece.

Sally Field Used to Play The Legend of Zelda With Robin Williams

During a recent interview with Jake Hamilton to promote her upcoming film Remarkably Bright Creatures, Sally Field was asked what working with Robin Williams on the set of Mrs. Doubtfire was like. Field had great things to say about her time working with the late Williams, but she also shared a surprising bit of information regarding the two of them playing video games during the course of filming. The two would play early Legend of Zelda games at Field’s apartment, and she’s still a huge fan of the series.

Remarkably Bright Creatures premieres can be streamed on Netflix starting May 8.

For those who aren’t aware, Robin Williams was known to be a massive Legend of Zelda fan. He even named his daughter Zelda. To honor her father, Zelda Williams streamed Breath of the Wild for charity back in 2017, raising money for the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, an organization that researches mental illness. Robin Williams clearly had a deep connection to the series, but it was less known that he and Sally Field bonded over playing the games.

Field’s gaming days didn’t stop in the 90s, either. Even after all these years, she plays some of The Legend of Zelda games with her grandsons, and she still enjoys playing them when she’s alone. Although she didn’t really specify which entries were her favorite to dive into, she revealed that she has been playing on the Switch 2. There have been a lot of great Legend of Zelda games over the years, so it would be interesting to find out which ones she considered personal favorites.

Sally Field has had an incredibly strong career through the years. From her Oscar-winning performances in the films Norma Rae and Places in the Heart to being Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man, she’s maintained the same impressive longevity that The Legend of Zelda has. With The Legend of Zelda movie scheduled to come out next year, a cameo would be pretty exciting, but she hasn’t been connected to the film in any way. It would be a really special full-circle moment, though. There are plenty of actors who are gamers, and Sally Field’s love for Zelda is a pleasant surprise.
