Overwatch: Doctrine Ability Kit Revealed

Blizzard revealed the abilities and perks of the newest Support Hero for Overwatch, the vampire called Doctrine. Doctrine’s arrival in Overwatch makes him the game’s 54th playable Hero in the game’s history and the ninth Hero added in 2026 alone.

Doctrine’s initial reveal came during the 2026 BlizzCon opening ceremony, which was held a month after Overwatch saw the arrival of D.Mon as a Stalwart Tank. Hailing from Zimbabwe’s Shona tribe, Doctrine (real name Tamuka Yeukai) is chronologically 77 years old, while his vampiric abilities make him assume the physical form of a 40-year-old man in his prime. After being freed from an Icelandic prison cell by Doomfist’s splinter group, Doctrine grasps hands with Doomfist and states he is glad to see his old friend again.

Diablo’s Deckard Cain is Officially Coming Back

One of the most popular NPCs in the Diablo franchise is making a huge comeback, with Blizzard confirming the return of Deckard Cain.

Overwatch’s Doctrine Steals Enemy Health to Heal His Teammates

During a BlizzCon 2026 deep dive panel into Doctrine, Blizzard revealed some details that Overwatch players should note down. First, Doctrine is a Support Hero allied with Talon and Doomfist. Doctrine’s subrole as a Support Hero is Survivor, granting him passive health regeneration whenever a movement ability is used. Doctrine’s weapon is the Eternal Scepter, which does mid-range damage to enemies and also heals allies. Doctrine’s abilities are Infuse, Shrouded Momentum, and Invigorating Drones, which can be further augmented with his minor and major perks. Infuse adds a bonus effect to Shrouded Momentum, Invigorating Drones, and his Eternal Scepter when used. Shrouded Momentum allows Doctrine to rush horizontally while taking less damage, with free-flight capability when Infused. By comparison, using Invigorating Drones grants allies additional healing and attack speed. When the Invigorating Drones are Infused, Doctrine can bolster his own healing and attack speed instead.

Doctrine’s Ultimate ability is Deliverance, which launches a swarm of bat-shaped drones to grant his allies overhealth while reducing the maximum health of his enemies. With careful timing, Deliverance can be paired with hard-hitting Ultimates from Doomfist or Reaper that can quickly end a team fight. Doctrine’s minor perks allow his drones or his Eternal Scepter to heal for more health, while his major perks can either reduce Infuse’s cooldown based on damage and healing or allow Doctrine to sacrifice his own max health to increase the healing potency of his scepter. In short, Overwatch players looking to play a Support Hero can try out Doctrine during his ongoing Hero Trial until September 14. Doctrine will be fully added to Overwatch once Season 5 arrives on Tuesday, October 6.

Along with the arrival of Doctrine, Season 5 will see Sombra and Roadhog reworked into Support and Tank Heroes, respectively. The escort map Watchpoint: Grímsvötn will also go live in Season 5. Additionally, Overwatch players have a new prize to claim before Season 4 concludes in a few weeks. As part of the BlizzCon 2026 festivities, Overwatch players who log into the game and play a match between now and October 5 can redeem a Mythic Voucher to choose one of 14 specific Mythic Hero skins from previous Overwatch seasons.
