A new leak from Overwatch is teasing a major collaboration with the Nier franchise coming soon, featuring skins based on Nier: Automata‘s main cast. The competitive hero shooter from Blizzard has seen some big changes throughout the past month, launching one of its biggest rebrands in years. Overwatch officially dropped the “2” from its name in early February, confirming that Blizzard is starting a full-scale relaunch of the game with a brand-new Season 1 and adding five new heroes to the roster. Overwatch may now be gearing up for a big new collaboration.
Since the sequel re-launched as Overwatch 2 in late 2022, the shooter has seen multiple collaborations with popular games and media properties. 2025 welcomed several big crossovers for Overwatch, adding new skins based on Street Fighter 6, Gundam Wing, and G.I. Joe throughout the year. The shooter has already welcomed multiple new crossovers since its relaunch as well, including a Hello Kitty event and a China-exclusive collaboration with Naraka: Bladepoint. Now, the popular Nier franchise looks to be next for Overwatch, with Blizzard accidentally leaking the collab.

Overwatch Leaks An Official Nier: Automata Crossover
Overwatch may have mistakenly leaked its upcoming crossover with Nier through a short uploaded to the game’s YouTube channel. The video, quickly taken down after being posted, showed new Nier: Automata skins coming for Kiriko, Mercy, Wuyang, Lifeweaver, and Vendetta, all based on different YorHa androids. Nier: Automata‘s main characters are expected to receive their own Overwatch representations as part of the event, featuring skins inspired by 2B, 9S, and A2, among others. Prominent Overwatch leaker Overwatch Cavalry has also shared the planned release date for the Nier: Automata event, reportedly scheduled to launch with a mid-Season 1 update on March 10. Blizzard has not made an official statement about the leaked crossover.
Overwatch‘s new Nier: Automata collaboration comes as the first Square Enix crossover in Overwatch, but not Blizzard and Square’s first partnership. Blizzard previously worked with Square Enix when planning for the release of the first Overwatch, teaming up with the JRPG juggernaut to help make the new hero shooter a success in Japan. Square Enix served as the publisher for the Japanese PS4 version of Overwatch, given the Final Fantasy developer’s status as one of the biggest game studios in the region. The Nier: Automata crossover also comes as the two studios are still big competitors in the MMORPG genre with World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14.
Alongside Overwatch‘s recent rebranding efforts, the collaboration joins big news for the Nier franchise. During a celebration of the ninth anniversary of Nier: Automata, Square Enix dropped a cryptic hint about the future of the series, concluding the trailer with a “to be continued” message. The developer did not confirm whether the Nier: Automata continuation will arrive as a direct sequel or a spin-off of the Nier franchise. Series director Yoko Taro similarly teased a new entry in the Nier franchise back in 2024, though little has been revealed about the follow-up.
Overwatch also has a new game of its own in the works, with the franchise confirming a spin-off is on the way. Blizzard officially revealed Overwatch Rush on February 20 as a brand-new mobile-oriented hero shooter, shifting from Overwatch‘s standard first-person gameplay into a top-down perspective. Rush features smaller maps than its console counterparts while also boasting 4v4 matches, showing off early gameplay of characters such as Tracer, Reinhardt, and Mercy, among others. Overwatch Rush looks to put a fresh spin on the franchise’s standard formula, as the main game continues to evolve following its big rebranding.
