Highlights
- Grenades in Palworld can be upgraded with elemental damage, making them more versatile in combat situations and offering strategic advantages.
- Players can utilize elemental grenades to exploit Pals’ weaknesses and gain an upper hand in battles, with different effects for each elemental type.
- Crafting grenades with elemental damage encourages players to understand elemental strengths and weaknesses, offering a more engaging combat experience.
Palworld has many different weapons available for players to craft, each with its own level of usefulness in certain situations. Those who have reached higher tiers of technology are able to create powerful armaments that, more often than not, can change the tide of any battle in their favor. Of all the craftable weapons in Palworld, the grenade has one of the best opportunities for improvement by giving it one additional feature.
As players journey throughout the many islands in Palworld, they will eventually gain materials and experience necessary for crafting equipment. While some equipment requires a large amount of resources to compensate for the firepower it provides, there are those whose costs are relatively inexpensive yet can still be effective. One of those would be grenades, and they possess the destructive ability to make quick work of any battle when used right. Although they do have a number of shortcomings that will make some players overlook their usefulness, updating them to have elemental damage can boost their relevancy in combat.

Why Palworld’s Grenades Should Have Elemental Damage
There are many powerful and scary Pals in Palworld that players will encounter throughout their journey. Each of these creatures has specific weaknesses that can be exploited, making them easier to capture or take down in battle. While players can bring along their own Pals with the desired elemental types to take advantage of those weaknesses, doing so doesn’t necessarily guarantee victory. WIth elemental grenades, the players can assist their team in dishing out super-effective damage, turning any difficult battle into ones that are winnable. As of now, there are four grenades available for crafting:
- Frag Grenade
- Shock Grenade
- Ice Grenade
- Incendiary Grenade
WIth the exclusion of the frag grenade, the only thing that differentiates them would be the secondary effects they have on the environment upon impact. All of them do the same 750 neutral damage, making any of them viable options against enemies of every type. Although this can be considered a positive, it can make crafting more than one type of grenade feel unnecessary. Considering that each grenade provides the same damage output, players can choose to craft nothing but frag grenades as they can be accessed earlier and are just as destructive as those in the higher tier.
Having each grenade do different elemental damage will give players more reason to craft and use other types instead of neglecting them. This also encourages the players to fully understand which Pal element types are strong against others, ensuring that they don’t waste their time and resources in creating the wrong explosives for their arsenal.

Palworld Can’t Rest on its Early Access Laurels in 2024
Palworld was one of the most successful Early Access games at launch, but its recent falloff shows Pocket Pair has to keep improving.
The Other Benefits of Having Grenades Do Elemental Damage to Pals
The best weapons in Palworld are those that have value in nearly any combat situation. Grenades have the opportunity to become one by giving them access to more types of damage. This also allows for the inclusion of other secondary effects that can deal negative afflictions to enemies, such as:
- Dark-type grenades that inflict a blind status on enemies, making them miss moves occasionally
- Water-type grenades that drench enemies in liquid, making them move and act slowly
- Ground-type grenades that cause tremors which frequently stun enemies and keep them in place
There are many ways for the different element types to introduce new effects into the game. This provides the developers and players with creative opportunities for how and when they should be used in tandem with the right Pals, allowing for more engaging and exciting combat.
The more Palworld goes through balance changes and bug fixes, the more likely players will see updates to already established equipment. Grenades have the potential to become game-changing weapons simply by improving them to cover elemental weaknesses. Should Pocket Pair provide them with that upgrade in a future update, there could be noticeable changes to how players tackle enemy combat.
