Palworld is getting an exciting new spin-off with open-world MMORPG Palworld Online, but some fans might be disappointed to find out that this new game is going to be a mobile-only title. The project is being made by longtime developer and publisher Garena, as owner Pocketpair Inc. continues to expand the Palworld universe in bold new ways. As intriguing as an MMO-style Palworld game sounds, the fact that it’s a mobile title might make it hard to attract current players to the new platform.
Mobile games are incredibly popular in Asian markets, but this style of game hasn’t been able to grip the Western gaming community in quite the same way. Granted, there are still plenty of popular mobile games that Western gamers have spent hours with, but there are a lot of people out there who are fiercely loyal to playing games strictly on PC or consoles. Mobile gaming can have a bit of a bad rap, but Palworld taking another leap into this world is a great idea on Pocketpair Inc.’s part.
A Mobile Palworld MMORPG Just Makes Sense
Of course, it’s important to note that this isn’t the first mobile Palworld game, so entering this space isn’t anything new for the franchise. Krafton is also working on its own project with Palworld Mobile, but Garena is setting itself apart in a big way with its MMORPG take on the quickly growing series. It’s going to be one of the biggest expansions that Palworld has seen yet, and doing so with a mobile spin-off has the chance to make the franchise that much more accessible.

Palworld Online Might Not Attract Every Current Player, But It Can Introduce the Franchise to a Whole New World
There are going to be a decent number of fans who skip the Palworld MMORPG spin-off, but that doesn’t mean the game won’t be successful. If anything, it could potentially be just as popular, just with a different demographic. Games like Clash Royale and Candy Crush have an addictive quality to them, and Palworld has its own addictive gameplay loop that has people coming back for more. The mobile aspect will only make it easier to access that.
Instead of having to wait to play at home on a PC or console, Palworld Online fans will be able to pick up the game anywhere. It’s a similar situation to the recent Palworld trading cards that just launched. Not every Palworld lover is going to be interested in checking out the trading card game, but there are some players who are more than willing to cross over to a new medium, and it introduces the franchise to those who are purely hardcore trading card collectors who don’t have any interest in video games.
Garena has worked with a lot of different IPs over the years, but some of the most notable mobile games published by the company are Free Fire (also developed by Garena), Call of Duty: Mobile, Delta Force, Speed Drifters, Undawn, Speed Drifters, and EA Sports FC Online.
This can also be said for Palworld‘s direct competitor, Pokemon. There has been a lot of debate about whether Palworld is a Pokemon rip-off or not, which has gone so far that The Pokemon Company sued Palworld. Everyone has their own opinion about this controversy, but regardless of what one thinks, the point is that Pokemon has expanded its franchise to the point where it reaches a wide range of demographics. Not every Pokemon fan is going to enjoy a game like Pokemon GO, and there are plenty of fans who love the video games but don’t really care about the trading cards or the animated series.
With Palworld‘s wildly quick growth, it only makes sense that Pocketpair Inc. would want to reach as many gaming corners as possible. Palworld 1.0 brings something forth that the video game crowd can celebrate, while getting into the trading card and mobile worlds present the chance for the most die-hard fans to get even more content while also bringing new players on board.
Palworld Online’s Live-Service Details Haven’t Been Fully Revealed Yet
One of the biggest problems with mobile gaming is that it can create a situation where certain games rely on aggressive microtransactions to survive. It’s a major reason why so many gamers are wary of mobile spin-offs of popular games, but Pocketpair Inc. and Garena haven’t even announced any details about what live-service methods will be used, so it’s best to hold off judgment until more has been revealed. Offline progression, section structure, possible microtransactions, and the exact scale of the game are all a mystery right now.
Confirmed Palworld Online Features
- A “seamless” open world
- Co-op and competitive play
- PvE and PvP encounters
- Base building
- Crafting and survival
- One-tap controls
- A new Pal
- New side stories
The original Palworld features co-op, but Palworld Online is taking that blueprint and building an even larger community-driven version of this universe. Expanding the franchise’s reach in this way encourages more collaborative play while also simply introducing a larger world for fans who have been craving more chances to interact with other players and be part of a larger group. The deeper emphasis on community building could also make Palworld Online one of the biggest Pokemon GO competitors. There aren’t many games like Pokemon GO out there, and even though Palworld Online isn’t an augmented reality spin-off, its easy accessibility could create a similar kind of passionate community.
Garena has confirmed that Palworld Online is expected to be released before the year is over, but an estimated launch window has yet to be revealed.
Regardless of how one feels about mobile games, Palworld Online is yet another example of just how quickly Pocketpair Inc.’s franchise is growing. The game entered early access in January 2024, and Pocketpair Inc. has shown no signs of slowing down its ambitious goals for the series. Palworld has kickstarted a new era of creature collector games, and it’s going to be fascinating to see where Pocketpair Inc. takes the franchise next.
