Developer Pocketpair has filed a new Palworld related trademark, which suggests that the developers are planning to start focusing more on multiplayer, or that they could have a second game on the way. Since launching in 2024, Palworld has had multiplayer features, allowing for servers with up to 32 other players. Over the last two years, the developers have been fine-tuning these options, working to make the servers more stable while adding more features to the overall game.
Palworld server issues were a key problem at launch, mostly due to demand that was larger than anticipated. The game also had several bugs that caused frustration for players, but Pocketpair has managed to keep a passionate audience around. Palworld continues to see large concurrent player numbers on Steam, on top of players on PS5 and Xbox.
Pocketpair’s New Palworld Trademark
Players have uncovered a new trademark filed by Pocketpair for “Palworld Online.” Trademark filings from video game companies often provide hints about future plans, offerings teases before an official announcement is made. The trademark has kicked off speculation that Pocketpair will be releasing a new Palworld MMO, or that there could be a change to the current game’s name. It’s not unheard of for developers to slightly change the name of an existing game, usually to reflect some kind of major update. Palworld‘s 1.0 update is teasing big changes, so that does seem like a real possibility.

The trademark for Palworld Online was filed in both the United States and South Korea. Krafton is working on a Palworld mobile game, and it’s worth noting that the company is based in South Korea. With that in mind, it’s entirely possible that Palworld Online will be the official name for the mobile game. That’s just speculation until something is confirmed, but it’s been a while since Krafton has provided any kind of update. If this is the same game, that could suggest that more information will be revealed soon.
Out of all the possible explanations for this trademark, a Palworld MMO spin-off seems the least likely. Pocketpair is a fairly small developer, and the team seems to be focused on improving the current game. Palworld is still in early access, though that will change at some point in 2026. Unless the developer is partnering with another company (as it has with Krafton), it’s hard to imagine it being able to support a second game. If that does prove to be the case, Pocketpair will have to make sure that it doesn’t repeat the same server issues that were prevalent in Palworld‘s early days.

Until Pocketpair reveals the reason behind the new trademark, Palworld fans will have to speculate about what the future holds. Either way, there’s a lot to look forward to over the coming months, between the 1.0 update, the mobile game, and the Palworld TCG. Even with the current lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, it doesn’t seem like Pocketpair has any plans of slowing down or moving away from Palworld.
