PC Gamers Can Claim a First-Person Shooter for Free via Limited-Time Deal and Keep It Forever

Steam and Epic Games Store are both excellent sources for free games, with the former sporadically putting out limited-time deals for free games and the latter having a reliable, rotating system of free games every Thursday. Of course, the internet’s the internet, and a PC gamer can find plenty of free games by looking elsewhere, too. One of these alternative sources, IndieGala, is giving away a neon-lit first-person shooter that’s hard to pass up at the price of free.

The PC game in question, Neon Phonk Robots, emphasizes atmosphere with pounding music, neon lights, and exploding robots. In Neon Phonk Robots, players are able to destroy armies of robots while enjoying the overall vibe. Beyond atmospheric gunplay, players can assemble their own squads of robots of different expertise (stormtroopers, snipers, balanced squads, etc.), while upgrading their own weapons from standard (SMGs and Rifles) to the wild (Acid Cannons). Gameplay mainly revolves around capturing points, where players can also construct various turrets.

If Neon Phonk Robots sounds appealing, then there’s currently a limited-time deal to claim it for free via Indie Gala. Indie Gala is an Italian digital storefront for games, which grew out of its original Indie Gala Bundle charity offerings. While more lowkey than storefronts like Steam or Epic Games Store, there are persistently great deals on the site (including giving away some games for free). Unfortunately, the exact expiration date has not been given, so fans should act quickly to claim it for free. To do so is pretty simple.

Reviews for Neon Phonk Robots trend positively on storefronts like Steam, with most players praising its strong neon aesthetics and phonk music (phonk being a combination of hip hop and electronic music with several subgenres). Its gameplay has also been described as “incredibly fun” and “addictive” thanks to its level design and other traits. On Steam, 89% of reviews are positive—which can sometimes be a hard number to maintain with how many games are out there and how different gamers’ tastes can be.

If someone loves games with fun atmospheres and first-person shooter gameplay, then it’s worth checking out for free, but that’s perhaps doubly so for anyone who is a fan of phonk music and neon vibes.

Other Free Games This Week

If Neon Phonk Robots isn’t exactly your vibe, there are some other free PC games worth claiming via Steam and Epic Games Store. Steam users have until February 24 at 12 pm CST to claim Brother!!! Save Him!, a hardcore and retro 2D platformer that has over 20 levels and hard, challenging bosses.

Until February 26, Epic Gamers Store users can claim Return to Ash and STALCRAFT X: Starter Edition (at which time new games will rotate in for free EGS games). Return to Ash is a short narrative-driven visual novel about waking up in the afterlife and how relationships maintained in life impact it. Meanwhile, the Starter Edition is typically $25 but is being given away for the free-to-play MMOFPS StalCraft: X, which gives away weapons, artifacts, consumables, and more to get players into the game.
