PC Gamers Should Act Fast to Snag 3 Free Games on Itch.io

PC Gamers Should Act Fast to Snag 3 Free Games on Itch.io

Three PC games are currently free to claim on Itch.io, having unexpectedly received 100% discounts in late December 2025. The limited-time offers are available until early 2026, with PC gamers needing to claim them until January 1 or January 5, depending on the freebie.

While Itch.io is best known for its vast catalog of free indie games, the site also functions as a typical digital marketplace, allowing developers and publishers to sell their creations. Occasionally, some of those paid titles get given away anyway, if only for a spell.

Epic Games Store Users Have Until December 30 to Claim 2023 Game with 83 Critic Score

The 13th freebie in the Epic Games Store’s 2025 holiday giveaway is a Portal-like title with an 83 OpenCritic score.

3 Wildly Different PC Games Are Temporarily Free to Claim on itch.io

In the latest testament to this trend, three wildly different indie games were recently discounted by 100% on Itch.io: Aquamarine: Explorer’s Edition, Laser Tanks, and Evidence of 96. Each limited-time offer is part of a separate creator-run sale. The offers end at staggered times: Evidence of 96 is free to claim until January 1, while Aquamarine and Laser Tanks will remain available to grab for three and a half days longer.

Aquamarine: Genre-Bending Survival Game for Fans of Slow-Burn Mystery and Psychedelic Sci-Fi

Developed by Moebial Studios and published by Hitcents, Aquamarine: Explorer’s Edition is a distinctive genre hybrid that blends old-school adventure game design with roguelite meta progression mechanics and a survival-focused gameplay loop, all presented in the form of a turn-based comic book. Anchored by a colorful aesthetic rooted in the psychedelic sci-fi that emerged from the ’70s and ’80s, the Aquamarine pairs its many systems with a slow-burn narrative that gradually unravels the mystery of the alien ocean planet on which it’s set.

Evidence of 96′: a Bleak Minimalist Visual Novel

Evidence of 96’ is a brief but unsettling experience driven by a dark narrative about a deeply troubled high school student attempting to eliminate traces of his crimes. From a gameplay perspective, it primarily works as a traditional visual novel, supplemented by minor point-and-click interactions.

Laser Tanks: a No-Nonsense Top-Down Shooter With Neon-Lit Levels

As its name suggests, Laser Tanks is an unpretentious game. It’s about tanks… shooting lasers. What may not be immediately clear from that description is that the tanks in this game are as mobile as sports cars, requiring sharp reflexes in order to make the most of their capabilities. Developed by Turkey-based AbhiTechGames, Laser Tanks was built on the Unity engine and originally released in August 2024 via both Itch.io and Steam. As of late December 2025, it holds “Positive” reviews on Valve’s storefront, though the sample size is limited to just over a dozen user ratings. The Steam version is also discounted by 80% during the same period it is free on Itch.io, offering an alternative way to support the developer for those who end up enjoying this neon-soaked top-down shooter.

Itch.io offers DRM-free downloads in addition to its regular storefront functionality, namely the add-to-library feature. In other words, newcomers to the platform should make sure they are actually claiming one of these free games rather than just downloading it if they want to retain the ability to redownload it. Laser Tanks, Evidence of 96′, and Aquamarine: Explorer’s Edition are all relatively small downloads with low hardware requirements, making them playable on a wide range of systems.

In related news, the Polypaw-developed short horror story Smiley Dusty has also received a 100% discount on Itch.io in late December. However, this particular promotion is listed as being uncharacteristically long, running all the way through November 21, 2026.
