PC players looking for something a little different to add to their libraries have another free game to claim this week. Indeed, some folks were likely disappointed that there was no Steam Free Weekend promotion for October 1 – October 5 because of the Autumn Sale, but the good news is that GOG is currently giving away a paid premium game as a free PC game.
PC users should be aware, however, that this promotion is limited, as is often the case with such deals. This free game promotion ends in the early morning of October 5, so fans will want to make sure they act quickly and claim this game before the weekend is over.
GOG is Giving Away a PC Game for Free This Weekend
The latest GOG giveaway is built around an unusual combination of strategy, management, simulation, trading, and Wild West action, with Bounty Train putting players in control of a steam locomotive instead of the usual army, kingdom, or city. PC users will have until October 5 to claim this simulation game, but once they do, it’ll be available in their digital GOG libraries forever. It is a completely free giveaway, so there’s no reason not to claim it, even if not playing it this weekend.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
Set in 19th-century North America, Bounty Train puts players in charge of a railway company attempting to establish itself across the American frontier. Players start by choosing a locomotive and carriages before hiring a crew and taking to the rails, where transporting passengers and goods becomes the foundation of the business. The train can then be expanded and upgraded as the company grows, with historically inspired steam engines and equipment available along the way. It is also a game that has been around for several years, making the giveaway an easy opportunity to check out something that may have slipped under the radar.
Bounty Train has also maintained a 70% Mostly Positive review rating on Steam, suggesting it’s a solid, if not, amazing game. For some, a free 7/10 PC game is better than a paid-for 9-10/10 game. Free is free, after all, and that goes doubly so for free PC games.
The free GOG giveaway makes Bounty Train particularly easy to pick up for anyone interested in PC management/simulation games with a Western setting. Its combination of railway customization, trading, crew management, exploration, and real-time encounters gives the 2017 release a fairly distinct setup, while its Steam reception suggests it has found a receptive audience over the years. Anyone interested will need to claim Bounty Train before the October 5 deadline, though, as the game will not remain free on GOG indefinitely.
