PC Users Have Until February 5 to Claim 3 Horror Games with Positive Reviews for Free

PC users with a GOG account have until February 5 to claim Alone in the Dark: The Trilogy for free and keep it forever. While GOG promotions may not be as frequent as those on Steam and the Epic Games Store, the storefront often gives away classic titles that are well worth having in any PC gamer’s library.

Many consider Alone in the Dark an essential game for fans of Resident Evil. The IP has long had its own cult following, with players who view it as one of the best horror games of all time. While the franchise has seen multiple installments, reboots, and remakes over the past few decades, the first three games that GOG is currently giving away have always been regarded as the backbone of the series and a must-play for fans of the genre.

PC Gamers Can Claim a 10/10 Masterpiece for Free on February 18 and Keep It Forever

PC gamers will want to mark their calendars for February 18, as they’ll be able to claim a 10/10 masterpiece at no cost whatsoever.

Alone in the Dark Trilogy Is Free on GOG

Until February 5, PC users with a GOG account can claim Alone in the Dark: The Trilogy for free and keep it forever. The bundle includes the first three games that kick-started the franchise, along with the Jack in the Dark bonus adventure. The first game was released in 1992 and is widely regarded as the grandfather of the survival horror genre. The other two entries followed in 1993 and 1995, and despite being over three decades old, all three games still receive quite positive reviews on modern platforms like Steam and GOG.

Why Survival Horror Fans Should Play Alone in the Dark

While the Resident Evil franchise played a major role in popularizing the survival horror genre, Alone in the Dark is often credited with laying its foundation. Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, has previously stated that the original Alone in the Dark from 1992 provided the blueprint for his iconic series, highlighting just how influential the game has been to the genre.

Unfortunately, the franchise has struggled to recreate the same level of success in modern gaming. The 2024 Alone in the Dark reboot, for example, failed to meet the publisher’s financial expectations, contributing to the challenges that ultimately led to developer Pieces Interactive’s closure. That makes GOG’s current promotion especially appealing, as it gives horror fans a chance to revisit some of the genre’s most important moments before they are overshadowed or forgotten by the constant wave of new releases.

Alone in the Dark Trilogy Takes Players on a Wild Journey

One of the standout aspects of the Alone in the Dark trilogy is how boldly each installment builds on the last. While all three games share the same universe and feature familiar characters, each entry delivers a more unpredictable story and noticeably shifts the gameplay focus. For instance, the first title leans heavily into Lovecraftian horror, emphasizing puzzle-solving and a slow, deliberate pace. By contrast, the second game takes a more action-focused approach, emphasizing gunplay, while the third game aims to balance action, adventure, and mystery.

Other Free PC Games Right Now

Thanks to a recent policy change at the Epic Games Store, developers can now offer 100% discounts on their games, similar to how Steam allows free giveaways. As a result, the Epic Games Store has quietly added a few surprise free titles this week that are available for much longer than the storefront’s usual weekly offerings.
