It’s only Tuesday, and we’ve already seen multiple high-profile games leak before their release dates, including Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Forza Horizon 6. Well, you can add a third big-name game to that list, as multiple corners of the internet are reporting that Unknown Worlds Subnautica 2 has now also leaked online, a mere two days before its early-access release on May 14.
It’s been a tumultuous year for Subnautica fans, as developer Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton have been battling it out in the courts following reports that the developers of Subnautica 2 were denied a $250 million payout following the game’s delay back in July 2025. The courts sided with Unknown Worlds in March, and the May 14 early access release date was announced not long after.
Considering the lengthy legal battle it took to get here, it feels somewhat unjust that Subnautica 2 has apparently leaked roughly 48 hours before it’s set to drop on Steam and Xbox Series S/X. While I can’t fully verify the legitimacy of the leak, for hopefully obvious reasons, files for a build of Subnautica 2 are already circulating online.

Exactly how the game was leaked, as well as who leaked it, is currently unknown, but all signs seem to point to the Denuvo and Hypervisor cracking group DenuvOwO. A quick trip through the group’s Discord server shows that several users were aware of a leaked build of the game dropping at some point last night, alongside several never-before-seen images of Subnautica 2 that, according to those who shared them, originate from the pirated copy of the game.
Considering that Playground Games confirmed that Forza Horizon 6’s leak was “not the result of a pre-load issue,” there’s a chance that Subnautica 2’s pre-load files going live on Steam yesterday is completely unrelated to the game’s leak. If that is the case, it’ll be interesting to find out in the future how exactly these leaks originated and what’s causing them.
