Persona Fans Get First Look At Kotone Shiomi’s Abilities and Release Date

Persona 3 Portable protagonist Kotone Shiomi is coming to Persona 5: The Phantom X, and the game has detailed her kit and shared her release date. Fans of the neglected Persona FeMC will soon be able to revisit the character in Persona 5: The Phantom X with full voice acting, a new story, and all with a brand-new high-definition 3D model.

Unfortunately for fans, Atlus opted to skip Kotone Shiomi in Persona 3 Reload, the recent remake of the game. Though Kotone wasn’t part of the original version of the game that came out for the PlayStation 2, she was added as an alternate protagonist for the player to choose from when Persona 3 Portable launched in 2009. Thankfully, that version of the game has been ported to modern consoles, and now she’s joining another game’s cast.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Details Kotone Shiomi’s Addition to the Cast

Kotone Shiomi is joining the cast of Persona 5: The Phantom X beginning on September 24. All versions of the game will release a sync patch that will add her character in honor of the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Her banner will last until November 12 at 1:59 AM UTC. During a livestream, the team detailed her new look, kit, and gave some glimpses into her new side story. Persona 5: The Phantom X protagonist Wonder will encounter her after going through a mysterious door in Paulownia Mall, which will temporarily cause him to lose his memory of Tartarus. Kotone will come to his rescue there, and can join the protagonist’s party permanently if drawn from a limited banner.

Kotone Shiomi is classified as a Strategist, a class that focuses on buffing the team, and will have the Fire element. Her abilities will allow her to buff party members’ attack, pierce rate, and final damage. Her assist skill, Go For Broke, puts her in a Fortune state, which extends the effect of her Powerful Bond buff and allows her to activate another party member’s Highlight immediately, even if the gauge isn’t full. She also has a unique ability in which the party gains a 1% final damage amplification buff for every Strategist in the party, even if Kotone herself isn’t actively in the party. Both Persona 3 protagonists, Kotone and Makoto, will also be usable in the same party.

Fans of the Persona series have had a lot to enjoy in 2026, as the entire franchise has been holding celebrations for its anniversary. A number of Persona tie-ins have been hosted at various retailers and restaurants, a Netflix Persona adaptation has been announced, and more details of Persona 4 Revival have been revealed. Persona will also cross over with Cardfight Vanguard, with full decks for Persona 3, 4, and 5, and the remaining series entries’ protagonists featured on individual cards.

While 2026 is winding down, there will be plenty more to enjoy from the Persona series in the years beyond. Persona 4 Revival will launch in February 2027, and the producer of the game recently teased that more Persona remakes may be planned for the future.
