Hideo Kojima took center stage during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show presentation, where he revealed new details about his upcoming action stealth game Physint. Along with unveiling new key art for the espionage title, Kojima announced that Bill Skarsgård will be playing the lead character in Physint.
Set to be the visionary’s long-awaited return to the espionage genre, Hideo Kojima first announced Physint alongside PlayStation head Hermen Hulst during the January 2024 Sony State of Play. Flash forward to September 9, 2026, and PlayStation announces it’s stepping away from its partnership with Kojima Productions. According to an official statement from Kojima himself, PlayStation notified the studio in mid-June about its desire to cancel Physint and end its partnership, prompting Kojima to search for a new partner. Xbox stepped up, and now Physint is continuing development under the Microsoft-owned company.
Bill Skarsgård is Physint’s Lead Actor
Right at the end of Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show presentation, Hideo Kojima was given around five minutes to talk about his upcoming projects being made in collaboration with Xbox. Kojima states that he visited the Xbox offices in Redmond earlier this year and met with Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. The two reportedly discussed the future of digital entertainment and “shared a deep understanding of the goals [they] believe [they] should achieve together.”

Kojima then briefly discusses the two Xbox-related projects that are currently in development at Kojima Productions. The first of these is OD-Knock, the experimental horror game first announced in December 2023. While the SAG-AFTRA strike put a halt on development, performance and voice recording has resumed and OD-Knock is now progressing “smoothly.” A few behind-the-scenes shots of Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer on a motion capture stage are then presented, with Kojima stating that “through constant experimentation,” OD is “steadily taking shape.”

Kojima then provides some new details about Physint, the action stealth game announced in January 2024 that’s now being published by Xbox. Described as the “culmination of more than 40 years of [Kojima’s] career,” Physint is aiming to redefine the action-espionage genre. After reminding fans that Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe have already been cast in Physint, Kojima announces that Bill Skarsgård has been cast as the lead role in the upcoming stealth game. With its leads now confirmed, Kojima says that his vision of Physint‘s final form has become “much more solidified,” and that he has “tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.”
New key art was also revealed for Physint, depicting Bill Skarsgård and Charlee Fraser in costume in a picture that Kojima himself took. Kojima ends his Xbox Tokyo Game Show appearance by thanking fans for their continued support, and thanking his partners at Xbox for believing in his studio’s creative vision.
