PlayStation Confirms New State of Play for This Week

Sony reveals two back-to-back State of Play broadcasts for later this week, featuring new announcements for its PlayStation brands from first-party studios and its partners, as well as a new look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelations. With the massive rush of new game releases on the horizon, Sony is planning to give PlayStation fans another look at some of the biggest titles to hit later this year and into 2027.

Despite still being mired in controversy with players, Sony is pushing ahead with a look at some of its biggest games still yet to arrive. Marvel’s Wolverine is right around the corner, Ghost of Yotei is getting a Complete Edition, and God of War Laufey is looking to become one of the biggest releases of 2027. However, it seems like Sony is pushing away from the PC market, with a new PlayStation ad campaign centered around “Only on PS5” phrasing. Considering the difficulties with many PC ports, it seems Sony is choosing to simply move away rather than continue trying.

Rumor: Sony May Be Reconsidering Digital-Only Approach Because of Xbox

Sony could be considering making a change to its previously revealed digital-only approach, thanks to a recent move from Xbox.

Sony State of Play September Dates

  • September 3, 2026–6:00am PT / 9:00am ET / 3:00pm CEST / 10:00pm JST

Kicking off on September 3, fans can tune into not one, but two new State of Play broadcasts from Sony. As expected, the September showcase is set to tee up some featured games at the upcoming Tokyo Game Fest later in the month with the first broadcast event. Similar to Sony’s previous November 2025 State of Play, fans will also be seeing a Japan-specific event following the initial broadcast. Hosted by Yuki Kaji, the second State of Play will offer “deep dives into upcoming games from game studios in Japan and Asia.”

The first State of Play, starting at 6am PT, will feature updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios as well as third-party partners. Not only that, the end of the first broadcast is planned to end with a new extended look at Square Enix’s upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Fans recently got another big Final Fantasy 7 Revelation trailer at Gamescom and with the game expected to be heavily featured at Tokyo Game Show, perhaps some actual gameplay footage could be revealed.
