Following recent announcements regarding the God of War franchise, it’s worth highlighting that PlayStation and developer Santa Monica Studio have at least 5 God of War games in development. In theory, it’s possible more games may be in development than that, but that would require a lot of resources (as 5 games already do). Santa Monica, based on past comments, may have plans for more God of War games than that, though.
Recently, Santa Monica Studio appeared at San Diego Comic-Con, where much news wasn’t necessarily expected out of a panel with head of creative Cory Barlog and game director Ariel Lawrence, as well as members of God of War Laufey‘s cast: Deborah Ann Woll (Laufey), Christopher Judge (Kratos), Jack Quaid (Phranque), and Perlina Lau (Rue). And it seems the panel came to pack a punch, dropping two major pieces of news about the God of War games.
5 God of War Games Are in Development
First, the panel confirmed that God of War Laufey releases on February 16 next year, in which players step into the role of Kratos’ deceased wife as she finds herself in the Everywhen with a new quest to help our Kratos and Atreus across God of War 2018 and Ragnarok. That’s the first game in development and the next major release in the franchise. However, Barlog didn’t stop there—he also confirmed that a Kratos-led sequel following the events of God of War Laufey is coming. It’s likely early in development and won’t be seen for a couple of years, but it’s good to know about those two games.
“I was actually talking to the director of the next Kratos game earlier this week about all the different things that are going… oh ****, did I just announce the next Kratos game? Okay, code of silence, people. I need everybody to just forget that you heard that Kratos is in another game immediately after this. It directly connects to the events of Laufey.”

While this recent God of War news is exciting, it’s worth mentioning that three other games were announced back in February 2026. Alongside the shadow-drop release of God of War Sons of Sparta, Santa Monica Studio confirmed it was working on remakes of the original Greek Trilogy, consisting of God of War 1, God of War 2, and God of War 3.
TC Carson is back, the OG voice actor for young Kratos, and not much else was confirmed about these games. It’s uncertain if it’s three separate packages, one big special release with all three remakes, or what the overall direction is. The only certainty is that they exist.
- God of War Laufey – February 16, 2027
- Kratos-Led God of War Game – TBD
- God of War 1 Remake – TBD
- God of War 2 Remake – TBD
- God of War 3 Remake – TBD
What’s exciting is how interconnected all of these may be. Many fans are hoping to see the Greek gods return in God of War Laufey, as the very premise of the Everywhen would allow for such a thing, and it’s a neat way to expand the mythologies at play beyond Greek and Norse. On the other hand, the God of War games were seemingly ready to pass the torch to Atreus, so no confirmation of an Atreus-led God of War game is surprising. Nonetheless, Santa Monica has delivered time and again, and it’ll be interesting to see how all of these releases coalesce in the future.
