Pokemon Fan Designs Mega Evolutions for Magneton and Magnezone

Pokemon Fan Designs Mega Evolutions for Magneton and Magnezone

A Pokemon fan has developed their own concepts for what Mega Evolutions could be like for Magneton and Magnezone. The unique takes draw inspiration from another fictional franchise, and have been applauded by the Pokemon community for their creativity.

Mega Evolutions are one of the various twists that have been added to the Pokemon franchise over time, giving a temporary powered-up form to existing Pokemon. It, like Gigantamax Pokemon, have gained a lot of attention from the community over the years for the creative designs they’ve introduced. Since there isn’t a unique Gigantamax or Mega Evolution for every Pokemon in existence, fans tend to fill in the gaps, and sometimes introduce alternate forms for those who already have them, as well.

Pokemon Pokopia Players Are Paying Homage to One of the Franchise’s Oldest Mew Myths

Pokemon Pokopia players look to one of the most iconic myths about Mew as inspiration for their builds, resulting in some clever creations.

Pokemon Fan Creates Mega Evolutions for Magneton and Magnezone

Over on Reddit, a Pokemon fan called Wiinterfang has shared their designs for what Mega Evolutions for Magneton and Magnezone could look like. Magneton’s design is more straightforward, and largely maintains the original Magneton design of three Magnemites attached to one another. However, they’ve gained additional parts, including what look like electrical grounds, and glowing yellow eyes. These were likely added due to the reasoning for its Mega Evolution, where it drives excess power into the ground so it doesn’t hurt its trainer. While a Magneton normally wouldn’t be able to have a Mega Evolution, as it’s not the final form of the Pokemon, the artist imagines that it’s possible for Pokemon to do so, but the franchise simply hasn’t shown it happening yet.

Meanwhile, Magnezone has taken clear influence from Star Trek, changing Magnezone from a robotic UFO-like Pokemon into a full-fledged spaceship that strongly resembles the U.S.S. Enterprise. Unlike its partially-evolved counterpart, Magnezone is able to cope with the excess Mega Evolution energy, and uses it to create shields that can let it survive in the vacuum of space. The clever design keeps the overall cylindrical shape of Magnezone as the main saucer of the design, with its three eyes appearing on the body of the ship and the two thrusters in the back.

Pokemon fans have been intrigued by these two designs, with fans of both Pokemon and Star Trek particularly praising the creation of Mega Magnezone. Quite a few jokes have been made about Magnezone as well, calling it things like “The Magneprise,” a crossed pun between Star Trek‘s Enterprise and Pokemon‘s Magnezone, “NCC-1701 M,” giving it a unique serial number based on the original NCC-1701 ship, or altering famous quotes from Star Trek to fit the Pokemon, like “to boldly go where no Magnezone has gone before.” While it hasn’t gotten quite as much attention as its spaceship-style counterpart, Mega Magneton also has some outspoken fans, and a few commenters have expressed curiosity about what the shiny version of these two Pokemon might look like.

While the likelihood of an official crossover between Star Trek and Pokemon is likely next to zero, space itself has come into play in the Pokemon franchise. A number of Pokemon in the series are reportedly from outer space, ranging from Gen 1 critters like Clefairy to more recent and powerful Pokemon, like Eternatus or Iron Treads. While the origin of all space-connected Pokemon haven’t been made entirely clear, it’s become apparent that many Pokemon have existed somewhere other than the terrestrial Pokemon world. In some cases, this has even meant Pokemon coming from alternate dimensions, like the Distortion World. At the moment, Pokemon Winds and Waves doesn’t look like it will have much of a focus on things outside of the planet, but there’s always a possibility of new space-faring or space-originating Pokemon joining the Pokedex in the future.
