The three starters for Pokemon Winds and Waves were revealed earlier this year, and one fan has wasted no time coming up with concepts for their Shiny versions. When the games are released on Nintendo Switch 2, Pokemon Winds and Waves players will choose between Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. Browt is a Grass-type, Pombon is a Fire-type, and Gecqua is a Water-type.
Pokemon Winds and Waves will be released in 2027 and will appear exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. This will mark the 10th generation of Pokemon games, following Scarlet and Violet. Each generation brings with it a batch of new Pokemon to obtain, and Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua should be the first of many more to come. At this time, Game Freak has not revealed any additional Pokemon that will appear in Winds and Waves, but the developers usually reveal more in the lead-up to a new release.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Starters Get the Shiny Treatment
In a post on Reddit, user Immediate-Comb1755 shared fan art for Shiny versions of the starters from Pokemon Winds and Waves. Browt’s yellow and green design gets swapped for a brown and orange, Pombon’s orange and red are replaced with white and blue, and Gecqua’s dark blue and light blue are traded for purple and light pink. The color changes are striking and offer an idea of what Game Freak might offer. Pokemon Sun and Moon starter Litten got a white Shiny version, and the Pombon concept is somewhat similar. Meanwhile, Browt’s brown feels like a fun idea, based on its name alone.

Since the starters were revealed on Pokemon Day, a lot of fan art has shown up online. While some creators have simply offered their own takes on the trio, other Pokemon Winds and Waves fans have imagined evolutions for the starters. Pokemon fans have shown a lot of creativity in a short amount of time, and that’s always a highlight when new characters are revealed. Some fans have gotten pretty good at guessing what Game Freak will come up with, but it might be a while before more information is revealed about the games.
Many fans expected a release for Pokemon Winds and Waves this year, especially since 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise. By the time the games are released, it will have been around 5 years since the arrival of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. That’s much longer than fans are used to waiting between new Pokemon generations. However, the extra time should give the developers an opportunity to add more polish. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet had a lot of performance issues, and most fans would prefer it if Winds and Waves avoided similar problems.

The Pokemon Company has been vague about when Pokemon Winds and Waves will actually come out in 2027. Generally speaking, new Pokemon generations are usually released in the holiday season, meaning fans might be waiting more than a year for the games. Hopefully, there will be some kind of content released to keep everyone busy in the meantime, whether it’s DLC for games like Pokopia or Pokemon Legends: Z-A, or more Game Boy Advance games brought to Switch, like Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.
