Pokemon Fan Designs Mega Evolution for Forretress
A talented Pokemon fan devises a new Mega Evolution for Forretress, imagining an alternative version for the Gen 2 Bug/Steel-type creature.
Pokemon fan Just-Drawing-Mons has now created their own version of Shiftry, giving the Wicked Pokemon a refreshed look. While the general shape and color of its body has largely remained the same, Mega Shiftry has gained a number of differences from its base form, including recolored hands, making them look like autumn leaves instead of the usual green ones, and changing the number of leaflets from three to five. Additionally, Mega Shiftry wears a red face mask, and the white mane on its face has lengthened, giving it a full beard.
In the original lore for Shiftry, the Pokemon is said to potentially herald winter when it arrives. Based on that, this Mega Evolution seems as though it’s rolled back the clock a bit, bringing fall instead. Unfortunately, the artist didn’t share their inspiration behind the design, so the rest of the look remains up to interpretation. While Shiftry didn’t make an appearance in Pokemon Sun and Moon, it’s been in nearly all of the mainline games since its release, lending some credence to the idea that it could potentially receive a Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
The Interest in Mega Evolutions
Fans of Pokemon have been quite excited since the series announced that Mega Evolutions would be coming back. Like many evolutionary gimmicks, Mega Evolutions have had limited appearances in titles, albeit appearing a bit more than some other variants like Gigantamax. The Pokemon games have likely varied the unique forms in games in order to keep the titles interesting and to help provide a refresh to older Pokemon designs. However, many fans have been outspoken about their desire to see Mega Evolutions return, and now that’s finally happening. Players will likely be producing many Mega Evolution designs until the game launches.
