Pokemon Winds and Waves being announced last month finally made Gen 10 a reality. As exciting as a new Pokemon game is, though, fans are going to have to wait longer than anticipated for its arrival. Pokemon Winds and Waves are teasing a fun new adventure on a Southeast Asian-inspired archipelago, with adorable new starters, and the return of features like underwater exploration.
According to leaks from last year, Winds and Waves were expected to launch sometime at the end of 2026. It turns out that isn’t the case. Instead, Game Freak’s exciting new Pokemon game will be arriving in 2027. It’s unclear exactly when in 2027 the games will launch, but it’s nice to at least have a general timeframe in mind. Game Freak is bound to tease more of Winds and Waves as the year continues, and the first taste of Gen 10 may be in August. It won’t officially be through a Pokemon game, though. Winds and Waves isn’t the only game that Game Freak has on the way. Beast of Reincarnation comes out later this year, and it could actually be an unexpected hint at what to expect with Winds and Waves.
Pokemon Has Basically Found a Replacement for Eevee, and I’ll Be Shocked if Winds and Waves Doesn’t Give it a New Form
Pokemon Winds and Waves will likely add some new forms for older creatures, and I’m almost positive this Gen 1 mon is going to be the new Eevee.
Beast of Reincarnation and Pokemon Winds and Waves Are Worlds Apart, but a Big Leap for Game Freak
Game Freak has been the go-to developer for Pokemon games, but the franchise isn’t the only game that the company has under its belt. Titles like Drill Dozer, HarmoKnight, and Little Town Hero are part of Game Freak’s portfolio. The developer hasn’t exactly been well-known for its graphic prowess, though. Game Freak has traditionally been limited to simpler art and world designs, but Beast of Reincarnation is shaping up to be a big departure from the studio’s usual work. Beast of Reincarnation‘s graphics are surprisingly photorealistic. The game looks beautiful, and it could actually pave the way for Winds and Waves to be graphically impressive in their own way.

Winds and Waves Might Be a Big Upgrade From Past Pokemon Games
Beast of Reincarnation is different from Winds and Waves in almost every single way. Frankly, the only way that the two are similar is that they are both Game Freak titles. Also, gamers have already gotten a sneak peek of what Winds and Waves looks like. It’s obvious that it doesn’t share Beast of Reincarnation‘s photorealism, but that doesn’t mean that the latter can’t be a teaser for Pokemon fans. There are still a lot of Pokemon Winds and Waves features that have yet to be confirmed. Beast of Reincarnation‘s gameplay might be vastly different, but Game Freak’s time developing the game could have heavily influenced the upcoming Pokemon title.
It’s not too big of a stretch to speculate that Game Freak’s experience making Beast of Reincarnation would inspire more detailed environments and the implementation of more impressive graphics in Winds and Waves. Even from the first Pokemon Winds and Waves trailer, it’s already clear that features like the visuals and physics of the water are quite impressive.
The characters and Pokemon still look very on-brand, but Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ island setting is going to be where the game more than likely shines the most. The few glimpses that Game Freak has shown of these islands are further proof that Winds and Waves‘ environmental design is going to be on a different level compared to other Pokemon games. That’s one of the most eye-catching parts of Beast of Reincarnation, too. The world that Emma and Koo live in is breathtakingly beautiful, and it’s likely to be a taste of what exploring Winds and Waves‘ islands is going to feel like.

Beast of Reincarnation is an Exciting Step Forward for Game Freak
It’s usually been pretty easy to predict what a Game Freak game is going to be like. The developer has built its own formula over the decades, but Beast of Reincarnation is subverting expectations in more ways than one. If the game performs well and is received positively by players, this could mark a new era for Game Freak. What’s even more surprising is that the game may not even come to Switch 2. So far, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S are the only versions that have been announced. Xbox players subscribed to Game Pass will even be able to play on day one. Beast of Reincarnation‘s release date plans are just as unexpected as its photorealism.
There is always the chance that Beast of Reincarnation will come to Nintendo Switch 2 further down the road. It’s definitely shocking that the game is seemingly skipping the console at launch, though, since Game Freak and Nintendo have had such a long-running relationship. With Winds and Waves being a Switch 2 exclusive, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if Beast of Reincarnation did the same. The Switch 2 has the power to run it, but Game Freak may have wanted to expand to a different audience.
There’s no way to know when Game Freak will reveal more about Winds and Waves, but Beast of Reincarnation‘s impressive visuals make the promise of more sneak peeks that much more exciting. Pokemon fans still have a lot of questions waiting to be answered. One of the biggest right now is Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ box legendaries. These will probably be revealed in the next trailer, but only time will tell. The wait for Winds and Waves may be longer than some were hoping, but the good news is that Game Freak has another game on the way that is incredibly intriguing. It’s a far cry from Pokemon, but it’s going to be fascinating to see if Game Freak uses it as inspiration to bring better graphics and environments to Winds and Waves.
