Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Free Celebi Officially Confirmed For October 7

After a year filled with ways to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise, including Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 ports of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, players are now getting a free Celebi on October 7, 2026. Rumors state that Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald are coming to Switch and Switch 2 soon, especially after a viral clip of Gen 3 games being played on a modern console or emulator was shared by the official Pokemon account in Japan. This doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, given that the original Gen 3 games are needed to finish the Pokedex in Pokemon FRLG.

One of the most requested features for the new ports is Pokemon Home support for Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, and now, fans are about to finally get it. While how the whole thing will work remains a bit unclear, it would only make sense for Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald to actually show up as ports. Without them, the National Pokedex is doomed to remain incomplete, and it would leave many players disappointed during the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Finally Getting Pokemon Home Compatibility

Nintendo Switch users will be able to move Pokemon caught in FireRed and LeafGreen versions over to Pokemon Home and other compatible games.

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Players Can Get a Free Celebi on October 7

Pokemon Home support for Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen will officially launch in October 2026, specifically, on October 7. Completing the Kanto Pokedex for Pokemon FireRed or Pokemon LeafGreen will grant players a free level 50 Celebi in Pokemon Home, which will only be redeemable on mobile. This process is fully automated, and the only thing players have to do to make sure they receive the Mythical Pokemon is to catch all the Kantonian critters in the games, with the exception of Mew.

  • Free Celebi: Get a free Celebi for completing the Kanto Pokedex, though Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen‘s Mew cannot be obtained, and thus doesn’t count. Players’ progress is automatically registered in Home, and it’s shared across both versions.
  • Increased Storage: The Pokemon Home update will also increase storage for Premium users from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokemon total, which is massive for collectors.
  • Transfer Pokemon: Players will be able to transfer Pokemon from FRLG to Home, but the process is irreversible. Furthermore, Pokemon from other games in the series can’t be transferred to FRLG.

Regardless, many fans are hoping to see the Switch ports of Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald finally being announced and possibly shadow-dropped. With Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Home support launching on October 7, Gen 3 game ports are more a when than an if.

These ports would also be yet another great way to celebrate 30 years of Pokemon, and also make up for no Gen 10 this year. There are many similar releases this year, such as the 30th Celebration set for Pokemon TCG or a Pokemon art book collection coming in December 2026.

Then, according to leaks, Gen 10 will finally be released in late 2027. Though they remain unconfirmed thus far, leaks for Pokemon Winds and Waves share new details about the starters, reveal the full Gen 10 map (including a corner dedicated to Australia’s Northern Territory), share Gyms and Gym Leaders, and more. Fans will have to be content with this until the next trailer, and the wait might be long.
