Giovanni returns for the Harvest Festival: Taken Over event, but Pokemon GO also has more surprises in store for players, including the debut of a brand-new Gen 9 shiny variant. It’s an exciting time for Pokemon GO players as the game is kicking off a brand-new season, which means new content, Pokemon, and events are right around the corner.
Pokemon GO is about to kick off a new season, bringing Fall and Halloween-themed content to mobile players. Running for 3 months, players will have plenty of opportunities to take part in new events and experience the arrival of plenty of Pokemon making their debut. Mega Staraptor and Chandelure are set to be featured, with new GO Passes being available featuring Kyogre, Groudon, and Latios over the next few months, and of course, Pokemon GO‘s annual Halloween event will also be taking place during the Twilight Trails season as well. For now, players have a new Taken Over event to look forward to in less than a month.
Pokemon GO Harvest Festival: Taken Over Details
Kicking off on October 2 and running through the weekend before ending on October 5, the Harvest Festival: Taken Over event brings back Team GO Rocket and Giovanni. Players will be able to earn a Super Rocket Radar to challenge the Team Rocket boss, who is said to only be available at PokeStops for this event. Either way, taking down Pokemon‘s ultimate antagonist will give players a chance to capture a shadow form version of Zekrom. It’s also worth noting that a Shadow or Purified version of Zekrom can’t be fused with other Pokemon.

In addition to Giovanni’s Zekrom, the Taken Over event will also see the debut of the shiny form of Shroodle. Shroodle was originally introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, a Poison/Normal dual type that eventually evolves into the toxic monkey known as Grafaiai. While Shroodle is currently part of Pokemon GO, this will be the first time that lucky players can find a shiny version in the game.

Harvest Festival: Taken Over will also have a number of unique event bonuses active for the duration of the event as well. There will be a Harvest Festival GO Pass, which will offer a Super Rocket Radar as a reward and players can also take on Team GO Rocket Leaders Sierra, Cliff, and Arlo to capture Shadow versions of Wimpod, Fomantis, and Sandygast. Other bonuses include:
- Increased chance to encounter Shiny Slugma.
- Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
- Use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.
- Pokémon caught via one-star and three-star Shadow Raids during the event will have a wider variance of Attack, Defense, and HP.
Players looking for something to do in the immediate future don’t have to wait too long as the Mega Squads event is kicking off on September 8. Alongside the start of Twilight Trails, Mega Squads is adding Maschiff and its evolution, Mabosstiff to the game for the first time. Shiny Flamigo is also making its debut, while Shiny Pidgey will also be spawning more frequently as well. However, the event also puts a bigger focus on Mega Pokemon, letting Beedrill and Houndoom reach Super Max Level and unlocking a second Charged Attack. Players will have until September 14 to participate in this event and unlock everything it has to offer.
