Pokemon GO Fest 2026 will officially see the arrival of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. Mega Evolution has become a major part of Pokemon GO over the last six years, and developer Niantic has been slowly adding more of them to the game during that time. Mega Evolution can be a huge help for players participating in Raid Battles, so the in-game mechanic can be useful, on top of allowing players to fill the Mega Evolution section of their Pokedex.
Pokemon GO Fest 2026 will begin at the end of May, in Tokyo. June will see Pokemon GO Fest events in Chicago and Copenhagen. As is always the case, players that cannot attend these in-person events can also look forward to a GO Fest Global event. That one will take place in July, so the wait will be a little bit longer.
Pokemon Fans Are Still Baffled By Weird Gold and Silver Decision 27 Years Later
Nearly three decades after their release, Pokemon Gold and Silver fans debate a strange choice that was made by the developers.
How to Get Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y in Pokemon GO
Pokemon GO rumors long pointed to Mega Mewtwo X and Y’s arrival, and Niantic has now confirmed the two will debut at this year’s GO Fest events. Players that attend any of the in-person GO Fest events this year will automatically get access to Timed Research that leads to an encounter with either Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y. Players that participate in this year’s GO Fest Global event will also be able to get Mewtwo’s Mega Evolutions, but they’ll have to do so through Super Mega Raids. Players will have to collect Mega Mewtwo X Energy or Mega Mewtwo Y energy to Mega Evolve the Psychic-type.
This seems to be the way Pokemon GO will handle any Pokemon that have multiple Mega Evolutions moving forward, and this will lead to a running change for Mega Charizard X and Y. Mega Raichu X and Y debuted in Pokemon Legends: Z-A last year, so players can expect different Mega Energy for each one when they inevitably get added to Pokemon GO. Niantic has confirmed that players will be able to Mega Evolve any existing Mewtwo that they’ve already caught in Pokemon GO. However, the Mewtwo players catch in Super Mega Raids will automatically be at Mega Level 1, and lucky players might get one at Mega Level 2 or 3.
Pokemon GO has some changes coming to Mega Evolution, and that will continue with GO Fest 2026. For those Pokemon that have multiple Mega Evolutions, players will start to see different Mega Levels for these splits. This means a Mewtwo that Mega Evolves into Mega Mewtwo X multiple times will now have a higher Mega Level for that Mega Evolution compared to when it gets Mega Evolved into Mega Mewtwo Y. Players that already have a Charizard that can Mega Evolve into both will see their existing Mega Level carried over to both. Players that have a bunch of Charizard Mega Energy saved up will get that same amount of Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y Energy when the split takes place.

While the debut of Mewtwo’s Mega Evolutions would seem like the big highlight, Pokemon GO Fest 2026 should have a lot more for players to get excited about. The GO Fest Global event will be completely free for the first time, meaning that all players will receive the same benefits just for playing. That means all players that login during the event will get Special Research that leads to an encounter with the Mythical Pokemon Zeraora. New costumed Pokemon will also debut, including Pikachu wearing hats based on the three teams from Pokemon GO: Valor, Instinct, and Mystic.
