Pokemon GO is finally bringing back Armored Mewtwo to the game. This will mark the first time that Armored Mewtwo has been made available in Pokemon GO in six years.
Armored Mewtwo originally launched in Pokemon GO back in July 2019. After giving players a chance to encounter and capture the rare Pokemon in raid battles, it was removed just as quickly. Prior to this new announcement, the only way that players who missed out on Armored Mewtwo could get one would be to perform a Pokemon GO Special Trade with another player who had one and was willing to let it go, which could be difficult to come by.
Armored Mewtwo Is Making a Comeback
At the closing ceremonies of the Pokemon World Championships, new announcements were shared regarding the Pokemon franchise. Kicking off the announcement was that Pokemon GO would be bringing back Armored Mewtwo to the game. Beginning at 10 am on September 5 and running until 6 pm on September 6, trainer local time, Armored Mewtwo will appear in five-star raids during the Pokemon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale. Gamers won’t want to miss the opportunity, as there’s no telling if Armored Mewtwo will return in the future, or how long players might have to wait for such an opportunity.
Armored Mewtwo’s look is a callback to its origin story in the original Pokemon anime and games. In the early days of the Pokemon anime, as Ash was nearly finished collecting all the badges necessary to challenge the Indigo Plateau, the genetically-engineered Pokemon Mewtwo was briefly under the control of Team Rocket leader Giovanni. During those episodes, it appeared and battled with its armor on. Since the appearance effectively acted as a teaser for the feature film Pokemon: The First Movie, which is based around Mewtwo and Mew, it left a memorable impression on many, despite the fact that its armored variant wasn’t available in the original games Pokemon Red and Blue.

GameRant Quiz
While some gamers won’t be interested in the Armored Mewtwo hype, there are likely some fans who will do just about anything to get one. With so many years having elapsed since they were widely available, it’s led to high demand due to their rarity, to the point that at least one has been listed on sale for a staggering amount of real money. A Pokemon GO player previously listed Armored Mewtwo for sale on eBay for about $13,000. Now that it’s coming back, chances are many Pokemon GO players will be trying to encounter it and catch as many as they can, so it’s unlikely that it will appear online for prices quite that high in the future.
Armored Mewtwo won’t be the only variant of the Pokemon that’s received exciting news. Pokemon GO is also adding additional Charged Attacks for the two versions of Mega Mewtwo. Mega Mewtwo X will now know Dynamic Punch+, while Mega Mewtwo Y gets Future Sight+. These changes will also arrive during Pokemon GO’s Mega Finale, so even those who already have Armored Mewtwo have something new to look forward to with the popular Pokemon in the near future.
